iOS 14: Wrong Caller ID on Incoming Call

Hi all, upon updating to iOS 14, the incoming call occasionally shows the wrong contact name.

For example, if Mr. A is calling via direct line, it will show Mr. B calling which is my last call via WhatsApp or LINE.

Anyone would be advise whether is this a bug issue? settings? or etc?

Thank You.

iOS 14 has a major bug Every time you would get a call, the Caller ID on the screen (before you answer the call) shows the WRONG caller name. However, on the recent calls list, you can see the real name of the caller.

The wrong called caller ID appears updating to iOS 14. It usually happens if you are using multiple phone calling apps such as Whatsapp, Line, Skype, etc.

Restart your phone

If you have a phone With Face ID:

  • Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.
  • Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
  • To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

If you have an iPhone with a home button

  • Press and hold the side button until the power off slider appears.
  • Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
  • To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Update to iOS 14.0.1

Apple launched iOS 14.0.1 few days after the launch of iOS 14. Follow the below steps to update your iPhone to the latest version.

  1. Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
  2. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  3. Tap Download and Install.

Reset your network settings

If nothing works, please reset your network settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on General
  • Click on Reset
  • Select Reset Network Settings.

Please let me know in comments if either of the solution worked for you.

I find this from appleinsider:

If your iPhone is having serious problems, you may not even be able to make the Slide to Power Off swipe at all.

You will always, though, be able to force an immediate restart. Briefly, what you're going to end up doing is pressing and holding both the volume up and the Sleep/Wake buttons again. However, you're first going to effectively tell the iPhone that you want to restart instead of shut down.

  • Press the volume up button once
  • Press the volume down button once
  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Keep holding even when you see Slide to Power Off
  • Keep holding until you see the Apple logo

Do this carefully.

If you skip the pressing of the volume up and down buttons, and instead just, for instance, hold volume up and Sleep/Wake, you get a version of the shutdown page. Rather than the regular one, it has that same Slide to Power Down option, but also an Emergency SOS button.

Hi Dear,

it is very hard to simulate the issue and i not getting the issue while i try to replicate the issue to the apple consultant who called me for support after raising a case, but my bad luck after a hour i called one of my friend thru 3rd party call app (Botim) and the next call showed my previous contact number , i m trying to find the logic behind this , sometimes same combination brings me the issue and sometimes not.

one thing i have updated to 14.2 now it is stable so far past 2 days no problem occurred and caller id issues seems addressed.

i will not conclude anything as of now i will keep monitoring for the whole week , i will update this forum and eagerly waiting to share my results in a couple of days.

Yes, a big problem for me too - the previous owner of the number name is being displayed. As a result, I am talking to AT&T advanced technical support about this "fundamentally significant" issue. Same problem here but I own and have access to both numbers for testing and diagnosis purposes. ISSUE DESCRIPTION: My iPhone 11 Pro is displaying INCORRECT caller ID NAME (i.e. correct phone number but previous phone number OWNER'S NAME) when I dial it from my AT&T home landline number (landline connected to new AT&T router and ATT fiber connection). At the same time, other landline numbers that I call from AT&T home landline number, display MY CORRECT name and number. I am in discussions with AT&T about this issue. AT&T is stumped but good people are attempting to figure this out too. I will report back when any party finds the problem. Unsupported theories that I have as to the possible sources of the problem: 1) old cached CNAM caller ID that my mobile carrier (T-MOBILE) has not updated on a timely basis (apparently caller ID data is provided by the carrier of the phone displaying the number) 2) some incorrect caller ID second level data or 3) some new part of the new FCC system to combat Robocalls related to updating "STIR/SHAKEN caller ID authentication framework in the IP portions of their networks."
