Sign in screen now shows .."Other." And what is a MultiplySearch profile?

Today when I went to log into my MacBook, instead of seeing two log in options...Mine and Guest, there was a third..Other. I have no idea where that came from. I am OS High Sierra 10.13.6.

So in trying to figure it out I went to Preferences...Profile and came up with three MultiplySearch under User Profiles. One was created August 21 and the other Sept. 7. This is about the timeframe where I began having an issue with Mail. Keep getting a message that the Imap port is timed out and all my Outgoing mail goes to an Outbox where is MAY be released in 30 minutes, and hour or more.

The third profile is Xfinity Wifi, which was created in 2016 and not a problem.

Can anyone please explain about the new log in options, what these two Profiles are and whether I should get rid of them and if so, how?

MultiplySearch is Adware...

See if you have unknown Profiles.

To remove a configuration profile in macOS:

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences....
  2. From the View menu in System Preferences, select Profiles.Note:
  3. Profiles won't be visible until you have at least one profile installed.
  4. Select the profile you want to remove, and then press the - (minus) button. Click Remove to remove the profile.

You may need to delete the account & start over, or maybe you need Sign in with App Passwords...

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

Create & use App Passwords

If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an App Password.

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. Select Security.
  3. Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
    1. 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
    2. 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
    3. Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
    4. You turned on Advanced Protection.
  4. At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using  Select device and choose the device you’re using  Generate.
  5. Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
  6. Tap Done.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Those two mysterious profiles are gone, but the "Other" sign in option is still there. I can live with that, but I wish I knew how it got there.

The Mail is still not working correctly. Anything I send goes to an Outbox and sits there for 15-30 minutes until I get this.

I hit "Try With Selected Server" and SOMETIMES it works, but usually I have to wait two or more time before it works.

I've checked all Account settings and used Connection Doctor. But cannot get it to function correctly.

In the Account Preference Settings, I cannot see or change anything. I only get this.

All my settings in Gmail are as they should be. As they have always been.

This phenomenon only effects Outgoing Mail. I receive just fine.

I was told this is something Apple did in its last OS update.

Thanks again for your help.

I'd advise against Sophos.

Have you restarted yet?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
