iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

Yes, I have my notifications working now. I wasn't getting any. I have a link in this thread where Apple tells how to set it up. You have to do it thru shortcuts IF you added the icon covers or widgets. I don't have the link but this is a copy of the last step. Look back & I answered Brogellr & I believe it was Kesha who asked if it really works. It did. Notice at the bottom of this screen where the orange icon is ........it says allow messages to access notifications. There isn't anything in the Notifications section of settings that I found to work.

See page 5 in this thread.

@steelc, this article says beta versions are only available to developers so it is misleading when users give the impression anyone can download it. I did a factory reset that didn’t work and caused me to lose all my personalized settings, it did a reset all settings and that didn’t work either. I have tried everything that everyone has suggested without success.

I had same symptoms of no longer getting notifications/sounds while in lock screen.

All notifications/sounds came back after powering off my apple watch and rebooting my Iphone.

There must be some improper interaction between the Iwatch and Iphone regarding notifications.

Hopefully this problem gets fixed SOON !!

Hopefully Apple support is monitoring these discussions ?????

After the iOS 14.1 update I suddenly stopped getting notifications for just ONE person. Because they are a “favorite” I noticed there was a “moon” next to their avatar. I went into their info - from messages - and noticed that “hide alerts” was toggled on.

If you’re only missing notifications from ONE person, this could be the reason. A bug? Or maybe I inadvertently toggled it when looking for a past image or information? Not sure but it’s fixed now!

I also updated to 14.2 and the problem is still there. It has to be related to the iWatch. When I power my watch off, my notifications appear on phone Lock Screen. As soon as I turn my watch on - the notifications stop. I do have an older iWatch running 6.2.9 Watch iOS and it cannot be updated to 7.0. I ordered a new iWatch several weeks ago. It will be interesting to see if issue goes away with iWatch 7.0 iOS.

The only thing that seemed to work was to restore my phone and reset up the device as a new phone. I had to unpair and reset the apple watch too. Long process to reset everything up but certainly so far so good.

iPhone and apple watch users please note if you have both devices on you and your watch series 6 is unlocked, only the watch with get the audible notification. The phone remains silent however after unlocking your phone the notification badge and Notification Centre will show the alert.

the above worked for me and I’m using a iPhone 11Pro Max and Watch Series 6
