iOS 14 text notification issues

Hobo4 - Good to know that it appears to be an inherent bug in the OS.

I checked out your link - I already had the Filter Unknown Sender disabled in Messages. I tried the second option of toggling iMessage off/reboot/on. That seemed to fix my SMS notifications for now. However, I suspect notifications for other apps may still be broken. Time will tell...

When I talk with Apple tomorrow, I'll let them know this seems to be a widespread issue with multiple symptoms. Hopefully, a fix is already in the pipeline.

I had the same problem and also wrote in this thread. I did a full backup to my computer/itunes and than a factory reset. after this restored my data.

this has fixed the problem, but this could not be the solution from apple!

i only tried this because I was not willing to wait for apple to fix it (have problem since 14.1) and my phone was unusable with no notifications.

Same issue. Ever since the update 14.2, my notifications for text messages stopped. I’ll get them sometimes but not always. My sister works for Apple and she had me do a force reset and that still did not help. Hopefully they come out with another update ASAP to fix the bugs from this new update. So frustrating!!

Apple support told me to back up my iPhone to iCloud and then do a restore through iTunes on my MacBook. I did it - it completely wiped out everything on my iPhone - then I did the restore from iCloud. Everything works perfect now.

docpat97 - I'm not sure Apple is recommending disabling bluetooth as a fix. I believe they are just trying to troubleshoot the issue and find some sort of pattern to help them provide a permanent resolution. If disabling bluetooth seems to be a common workaround, that helps their development team hone in on that area.

Mine isn’t showing me I have texts on my iPhone 11 or my watch and it’s automatically reading them!! Very frustrating especially when I have to work and rely on texts to know how my 7 month old is doing!!

Since ios14 my phone will alert for new text messages with any sound. Silent is off, do not disturb is off. In my DND settings only two options for silence: never/when iPhone is locked. Even while do not disturb is turned off it is silencing my text messages only, can still receive calls. If the phone is unlocked I will hear the texts. I have tried reset all settings, even got the new 12 pro and having same issue. I have not reset to factory on my phone but have on the iPad and, same thing. Nothing seems to fix it besides changing the time out for the phone to lock.

The way the restore through iTunes was explained to me is that it takes all of the layers of updates off and puts the latest one on like with a new iPhone. All I know is it worked for me and nothing anyone else suggested trying worked.

I have the same issue!!! I had a iPhone 7 and downloaded the new IOS 14 and I thought that it was my boyfriends phone that was the problem. Because whenever we would be on the phone, the call would drop without warning. Then I wouldn’t be getting his text messages at times. Now with this new iPhone X, I have the same problem, plus the iMessages notification. So should I wait to replace my phone? I just got it 2 days ago

Since the iOS 14 update, my notifications and notification sounds don't work while I'm on a call. When I go to my messages new messages are there but I never received any notification or sound! When is the next update to fix this issue?

my phone just now started having this problem after updating to iOS 14.2. Although mine isn’t while in calls. Mine is doing it all the time, on a call, listening to music, watching a video, or even just sitting there locked. Think they would have fixed it by now. Funny enough the feedback page doesn’t even have 14.2 as an option on the dropdown.

Yes, one at a time until they were all off then turned each back one at a time. So far I’ve gotten notifications for texts from all my Apple phone user friends. I didn’t get a notification of a text from an android user so don’t know if that will continue as it was right after I did the reset.

I have this issue too intermittently with SMS messages. I had it on my XS Max and now on my 12 Pro Max, others have it on 6s devices in my family. While not a fix, I've noticed that I get notifications when I close the chat thread down so my messages app is on the conversations list. When I lock my phone on the thread, it just delivers silently. So I have had some success with getting normal notifications when remembering to exit the thread.

Spam apple supports number telling them to fix this annoying bug!! I texted the support number and all they had to say was, “thanks for the feedback”. They typically actually text you and try to work out the issue. This must be just a bug that needs to be addressed ASAP. Text them your issues!! Obviously they’re not looking at this thread.

I got the new iPhone 12 recently and have similar issues. But more frustrating are the delayed and missing messages from a group chat with a mixed of iPhone and Android users. Today, i received from Apple an email to give my feedback regarding my purchase. In the survey there are enough questions to provide what we are facing in this thread. Hopefully a very dissatisfied purchase will get someone to address the issue.
