I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

I’m going to add to the list in hopes of Apple paying attention and fixing this ridiculous problem. Messaging on an iPhone has to be one of the most used features and missing notifications is not only an inconvenience and pain...it could result in personal life issues if people are waiting for timely notifications/responses.

Please fix this Apple!!!!

Hi

I’ve been having a problem with soft notifications ever since iOS 14. I found something today. Ringtones play at full Volume no problem. Ok so please test this. Put ringtone volume on full. Go to sounds and select ringtone , choose any ringtone and notice the volume. Ok go to text notification and play the same tone. Notice that it’s softer. Now while it’s playing swipe down the control panel. Notice volume bar should be completely full. Just tap on the volume bar and notice the volume raises like 20% even though it’s already at full?????? What the ****?? Only happens under notifications. All my notifications are so soft I never hear them. Even though all volume is on full.

Says a lot about this problem to have so many "me too" posts that I just had to "UnFollow" it because of getting so many emails! Not to mention that the initial post started September 19, THREE FULL MONTHS, at last check I saw 109,781 views, 700 replies. Many on thread said they have open Cases with Apple (and yes, I know this Discussion Forum is not officially read by Apple, but I do know that I for one did read them some posts and tell them how long this has been going on and how many posts).

Shocking to me still that a simple search on Apple Support doesn't pull this up as a Known Problem, being worked! Not to mention perhaps a more proactive public statement to let us KNOW we can't rely on texts. Not all texts are just social chats, a lot of important things go on (business, negotiating pickups and deliveries during pandemic, keeping in touch with people who may need help)

I have an iPhone X, and experienced the same thing after my iOS 14 update.

I reset and restored and thankfully now my phone is back to normal. Note that updating to iOS 14.3, resetting network/all settings, and toggling notification settings (in-app and in iOS settings) did nothing for me.

I’d recommend backing up (to iCloud and to a computer), factory resetting, and installing a fresh copy of iOS 14.3 and restoring from that backup.

I hope that works for you. I was so frustrated, particularly with the lack of support and solutions, and I hope this provides a definitive solution to everyone having this problem.

rcoo, I turn off my bluetooth and notifications on my phone work like it should. Turn bluetooth back ON so my Watch4 works, and then My iPhone 12 does not give any notifications for messages. Saw another user who said goto the >watch app< on my phone, select NOTIFICATIONS > MESSAGES > CUSTOM > NOTIFICATIONS OFF. Lo and behold the phone notifications work as it should. Turn notifications back on for the watch, and no notifications on the phone. Whats more the watch only gives me a little haptic tap, no sound. This scenario would be fine if I am in a meeting, or a movie theater, but is worthless otherwise. Maybe this is a new "feature". Only problem is I need to easily control whether I get notifications on my phone or not. I would prefer control over which, or BOTH devices getting notifications. Oh well have to wait till they fix this. iPhone 12 running 14.3, Watch 4 running 7.2

WORK AROUND

NO text message notifications or vibration alerts, unless the BLUETOOTH function is TURNED OFF within SETTINGS (not from control panel).

Only when the Bluetooth function is turned off within settings, does this work. Turning Bluetooth off with the Control Panel, doesn't change this (I understand this method doesn't actually tuen off the Bluetooth, but keeps it on and doesn't allow connection to other devices).

How do you see that and how do you turn that off. So far as long as my Apple Watch is connected I get no notices alert for any messages when my phone is locked. I even have bypass on for texts for my wife but it still doesn’t alert on my phone, only my watch.

Yes, your Watch is working as designed. This is how notifications work if you have a Watch:

iPhone locked/watch locked - notifications sound on phone

iPhone locked/watch unlocked - notifications sound on watch

iPhone unlocked/watch unlocked - notification sound on phone.

Bypass has nothing to do with this. What bypass does is enable a notification for that contact even if you have Do Not Disturb enabled.
