iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I have recently update my phone (11 pro max) to the IOS 14.2 software and since this update I will randomly receive text notifications. Other times, I will not know I have a new message unless I go into the message app. There is no sound notification, no banner notification, nothing on my lock screen, not even a red number on the message app; nothing to indicate I got a new text. I have tried all the tips and tricks that have been suggested to fix this and nothing has worked I am still having this issue. It is very, very annoying.

Same same. At first I thought I was crazy and was thinking “am I really this absent minded?” But seeing all of these other messages is validating me lol. It seems like it picks and chooses when it wants to send a notification or not. It’s hardly ever on the Lock Screen, or if it is, it disappears the next time I turn it on. I also have a new iPhone 11 with iOS 14.2. I hate this... why would Apple get rid of this? Getting texts and being notified of them is literally the point of having a cell phone lol. Stupid. Please change this.

Spam apple supports number telling them to fix this annoying bug!! I texted the support number and all they had to say was, “thanks for the feedback”. They typically actually text you and try to work out the issue. This must be just a bug that needs to be addressed ASAP. Text them your issues!! Obviously they’re not looking at this thread.

I got the new iPhone 12 recently and have similar issues. But more frustrating are the delayed and missing messages from a group chat with a mixed of iPhone and Android users. Today, i received from Apple an email to give my feedback regarding my purchase. In the survey there are enough questions to provide what we are facing in this thread. Hopefully a very dissatisfied purchase will get someone to address the issue.

I am having the same issue. I did not have it until updating to iOS14 and pretty sure I did not have the issue until it updated to 14.2. It is random. Some times messages from a particular person come through and other times they do not. I have made sure no one is blocked; all notifications are turned on for messages; iMessage is turned on; reset my settings; then reset the entire phone. Nothing has resolved it. I saw on another page where Apple watch could help because it seems to still catch the messages even if they phone does not. This is not the case with me. My apple watch behaves exactly like the phone. I do not know what to do. I have iPhone 11. Thanks for any help! This is ridiculous. I have had this happen to multiple people in my contact list. Sometimes the messages pop up and sometimes they do not.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and am not receiving any banner, vibration, or sound notifications for text messages (both iMessage and SMS). With all due respect, this is completely unacceptable for a $1400 phone. this is a rudimentary function that has been around long before iPhones even existed. I am missing important work messages, messages from my spouse, as well as missed an emergency text where I did not find out a friend had been rushed to the ER until the next morning when I found out by randomly entering the Messages app for a completely different reason. please do not tell us this is a hardware issue, as my husband is not having this issue on his iPhone 12 Pro Max with all of the same settings as my phone.

I have called Apple Support and was told to do a hard reboot (which I did yesterday and temporarily worked but then screwed up iMessaging completely) but that is not working. I was then told to remove iOS and reinstall via iTunes on my computer (iTunes is still a thing?) what year are we in? I have seen others do this, waste a ton of time, and then it does not work. I was also told this likely will not be fixed until 14.3 release at the earliest. okay so when is that supposed to be? was also told this is a side-effect of upgrading to iOS new releases very early on...1) I work in technology...I know what "release" means and 2) unfortunately due to security permissions, my work requires us to automatically update our phones to the new release as soon as it's publicly available, or they will lock us out of our mobile email.

PLEASE FIX THIS. we are in a global pandemic, the holidays are coming up, and for many of us, the only way we are going to be safely communicating with extended family is via text and phone.

I have solely purchased Apple products for 10 years and unfortunately will have to switch to Android if this is not resolved. really don't want to do this (and essentially waste the $1400 I just spent on this error-ridden device), but a phone without push notifications is worthless to me.

I had the same issue and read through most of the posts here!!

I may have found a solution (at least worked for me).

as many have said, turning Do Not Disturb on and off has no effect... try this:

Turn do not disturb on.

swipe down to see the Notification Center.

it will show a message saying to turn off the Do Not Disturb. Press this option to turn it off.

and voila!!

seems that turning the DND manually in settings doesn’t work, but through the Notification Center it actually works.
