iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I am not getting text notifications (sound, banner, badge) every time I receive a text ever since I updated to iOS 14. My iMessages also take a very long time to deliver, sometimes it send right away but most of the time it takes a long time for it to send. I have reset my phone multiple times, even a hard restart and nothing seems to work. I work off of my phone so this is a very frustrating thing! Please advise. Thank you.

I also toggled off in Settings>Messages...Filter Unknown Senders. That shouldn’t matter but trust me, I was desperate. I’m thinking maybe there’s a bug where it’s not recognizing someone in your contacts. So maybe it “filters” them by not actively showing their notifications. Worth a try. Between that and the iCloud, that worked for me still. Thank God!

Yes, that’s what worked for me. I toggled off messages in cloud AND filter unknown senders. Now I have noticed that it is internment. After trying these yesterday (Thanksgiving), everything worked good all day. Today, it is off and on but only with 1 contact. My next option will be to delete that contact and re-create them in my phone to see if that fixes it permanently.

Another thing I am going to try is unpin (in messages app iOS 14) said contact. Could be an issue with that too. Maybe their texts get automatically opened so to speak when they are pinned (which would be a big of course not by Apple design).

This is also happening to me - though it’s intermittent. Some days it seems to work fine and others I miss texts because of the lack of notifications. For most people is this a constant reproducible problem or is it intermittent. For me it’s not just specific to one contact. I’ve left feedback twice. No point in calling support, since it’s not always reproducible I am sure it would work perfectly when I was on with them.

Ohhh it's always been an intermittent problem for me. I am now trying both settings together.

I had not thought about the pinned contacts. I have six so now I'm gonna pay more attention to which are associated with the bug. That's a good find. Thanks for that.

I'm running with both settings toggled off and I'm actively monitoring the pinned contacts vs unpinned contacts for notification alerts.

I’m also experiencing this problem in my iPhone X. It’s caused some problems with coordinating holiday and work schedules. Apple just caused me to miss Thanksgiving dinner. I work night shift and I worked Thanksgiving. I was getting ready for work and waiting for a message as to when I needed to leave my house... I rely on my phone a lot with my schedule and am really disappointed that something as simple as a text notification has made me realize I can no longer count on Apple products.

I am having the same problem, although my phone completely omits any form of notification of a text sporadically. It doesn’t happen for every text, probably for 5 or so a day. I am under the impression that somebody has completely not responded to my text only to open the chat and find that they did respond and it says that I have read it (which I clearly have not). I seem rude only because I never actually received any notification.

i am also experiencing this and read peoples replies. One person said that Apple told them this was a new feature in the update?? Surely this can’t be right they can’t take away notifying you when you receive a text. If so then apple are going very downhill with their software. The only reason I buy apple is because the software is much better than Android! If they really have made this a new feature I hope they remove it as it is really not helpful!

I'm running with icloud messages OFF and Filter Unknown Senders OFF and no joy yet again. Text bug remains. The only thing I've found that remotely works is killing the messaging window after EVERY text which is not feasible even as a short-term work-around.

Also, found yesterday that a known contact that is NOT pinned sent me a text and the alert bug reared it's ugly face.

My text alerts will sometimes work and randomly not work. I'll have unread texts out of nowhere in text windows that my phone thinks they've been "read" even though I didn't know they had arrived as I never got any type of alert. The only way I knew they were missed was because I went to each text window. 🤦🏻‍♂️
