iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

Did you see my link just above this? Mine notifications are working now. I don't get the red numbers as to how many calls, texts, etc but I am getting banners both at top of screen & sound. I have new icon pix & widgets. If you used shortcuts there is where you set up the notifications. It is written by Apple.

my original reply is on page 5. But then I got a notice to reply to the discussion just a few minutes ago. Hope it works for you.

i have a screen print above also but you have to start out in shortcuts. Then use the 3 dots in the upper right corner & tell it to put on home page & go down to notifications and use the photo for that shortcut.

I think there is no question Apple is now aware of this issue. Whether or not they read these forums, many here have called and opened support tickets with regular, and in some cases Senior, Apple advisors in the last couple weeks and have pointed them here. Multiple tech blogs have covered it and even Twitter and tiktok is crazy with reports. Sadly from beta testers it seems we will have to wait until a release after 14.3 since they reported the issues remain. <Fingers crossed> it’s addressed soon!! I’m one of the lucky ones who this is just a minor irritation and not a business or livelihood interrupter.

if you read this and haven’t, open a support ticket and leave feedback or tweet. The more who do the better off we may be in the end.

My iPhone does not give text message notifications or vibration alerts, unless the BLUETOOTH function is TURNED OFF within SETTINGS (not from control panel). I have gone through countless other strategies to test: reset, sounds and haptics, accessibilities - vibration ON, etc etc etc.

Only when the Bluetooth function is turned off within settings, does this work. Turning Bluetooth off with the Control Panel, doesn't change this (I understand this method doesn't actually tuen off the Bluetooth, but keeps it on and doesn't allow connection to other devices).

This same issue happened 3 years ago with my iPhone 5s. I have done complete reinstalls on that old phone to try and remedy, to no avail, and have done them again with this iPhone 11 Pro while setting up the phone

Please help.

I think I found a solution for apps like WhatsApp, Facebook messenger , gmail and YouTube I wasn’t getting notifications for these and I have tried uninstalling and installing on 14.2 but It didn’t work then but seems to be working on 14.3.

Before doing it for the apps like WhatsApp Try it on Gmail or Facebook cause they don’t need a backup

You have to do perform the following steps

Number one uninstall the app that is having the problem

Turn off the phone

Turn on the phone and install the app again ,it will ask for the permission for notifications select allow notifications

Since my backup for WhatsApp was larger than 5 GB I subscribed to the trial version of Apple one which gave me 50 gigs of iCloud storage and I backed up WhatsApp on it and a other apps which were having the problem and then one by one I reinstalled them

Now all of them are working properly.

The solution works for 14.3 I don’t know about the previous versions

Hope it works for you

I am having the same issue. I’ve noticed if I left the messenger app open but locked the screen I will not get any notifications. If I have it left open in the background and some other app open and lock the screen it is the same thing, no notifications. But if I back out of messages and then close the app I will get notifications. This is the dumbest update apple could do. Both my phones do it and one of my phones is for business that I am on call for and I miss text notifications all the time! Fix this or let us have an option to shut that off!

Running 14.3 on an IPHONE-12 Pro Max and the text bug is still present. I've also tried turning off the Face ID Attention Aware Feature and that did not solve it.

The only dependable work-around is still to either back out of the individual text window to the main chat window or kill the text window completely (swipe it away) after every text (sent or received).

I first saw this issue with my IPhone-X after I installed IOS14.

Apple has repeatedly stated that we are basically at their mercy. The last 14 iOS update was never promised to fix this issue, and it’s apparent that technicians and developers don’t read these threads. Apple has also said that they don’t know when they’ll be releasing an update with a bug fix for this. I did however see that turning off your Face ID awareness fixes the problem for some people. I haven’t tried it just yet. Apple sure did a bang up job.
