iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

Notice how Apple hasn’t made a peep about this either, as widespread as it is.

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Apple's participation here is minimal. And, based on the fact that there aren't a huge number of threads on this issue, it's probably not as widespread as it feels like. Unfortunately, based on reading this thread, people aren't reporting one problem. They are reporting one set of symptoms that have several (or more) causes.

If everyone who has a problem reports it to Apple (see the Get Support link a the top right of every page of these forums), it's possible that Apple will start to get enough data to resolve some of the issues.

Well... I hoped you may be onto something, terskac. Given your thoughts about one device at a time, I powered down my iPad (but just left my MacBook Pro asleep), and then started sending texts from my wife's iPhone. Whaaaat? I started getting notifications on my iPhone repeatedly. So, then I turned the iPad back on and resumed sending me texts. Amazingly, notifications persisted on my iPhone. And they appeared also on my iPad... but inconsistently. Sometimes just popping up, sometimes chiming. Apple just can't seem to figure out how to handle multiple devices.

Unfortunately, even this solution failed later, even with the iPad powered off and after setting my iPhone to not forward messages to my iPad. So, back to TURNING OFF BLUETOOTH to keep notifications coming (my only reliable solution).

Like all of us on this post, I've been fighting this for nearly a year now when my iPhone 11Pro is locked. I was hoping iOS 15 would fix it, but you're saying it doesn't. Blast it, Apple!

This makes me think that I may have only been missing notifications on my iPhone when I was actually using my iPad or Mac at the time, since I had alerts for messages disabled on them. I also noticed the handoff indicator showing on the Messages icon on my Mac once, so maybe this problem also had something to do with handoff. I’m not going to try to verify any of that, since signing out of my Apple ID in the Messages app on both my Mac and iPad seems to have solved the problem for me, which is fine with me since I never really used Messages on them anyway.
