iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

This problem looks like some other device is accepting the notification. Since everyone's computing environment is different, there could be interactions across multiple systems. What if there is a bug in the software of a device that connects via Bluetoooth to the phone and mistakenly grabs the notification? If this was an easy problem to fix, it would have happened by now. The whole logical flow of notifications has gotten too complicated. All the notifications that I use are from Messages or Calendar so my case is simple. Everyone is getting tired of "try this" or "try that".

I was having this problem and it appears to be mostly fixed after I turned off iMessage in Messages. I really wish there was a separate SMS app that was not integrated with Messages.

Sir_Plx, read my post on page 83. In summary, I think the problem is with the Apple ID, that's why the error persists even if you change the device, even if you restore the iPhone.

I don't have AirPods and I've this problem, but I do have an Apple Watch S6. Regarding your question, I have been in this thread for months, I can tell you that several people reported that turning off bluetooth solves the problem, but also other people reported that even with bluetooth turned off the error continues. I don't know why Apple takes so long to fix it, or they don't know about the error?.

Saw a review from another page,

"For me, it happens when I exit the messages app with a conversation/thread still open. I think when you exit the app, iOS doesn’t recognize it and it’s as if you still have the app on the screen. Thus, no notifications and the ‘read’ status on the other person’s side.

Until a fix, I just make sure to exit a thread before exiting the app."

I have the same issue with multiple message apps, such as WeChat, Messengers, Whatsapp, Instagram, Gmail, and so on. I personally don't use iMessage. I contacted Apple and the specialist said that it is the app's issue, not Apple's. It doesn't make any sense if it happens to multiple apps.

Anyone with a solution please hit me up!!!!

I haven't had a go on messages yet, a quick search on the internet shows some tutorials on restoring messages from icloud/itunes backup. Some ways will 'restore' your complete phone alongside restoring the messages.

This link lists a number of option: https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-recover-deleted-text-messages-on-iphone?r=US&IR=T.

However, I think the problem with the messages app is that you may not be able to delete it at all: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252164318

My problem was not limited to the messages app, almost anything that gave notification stopped after my IOS 14 update.

The reason I started this delete and new install approach is that I noticed when I installed a new app to manage my gmail mails, that app happily gave me notifications, the mail app (non-Apple) on the phone when I updated to IOS 14 stopped doing so. Moving on to WhatsApp, which seemed safe because of the backup feature, was also successful.

Not having notifications from Eufy security when 'visitors' are detected with my home camera system was one of my bigger problems. What's the point of having a camera based security system without notifications? Also here a delete/re-install was succesful.

This is ridiculous. I have this issue on my iPhone 12Pro max, had it on my iPhone 11 before upgrade. My husband is having the issue on his phone and both my neighbors are having the same issue. This is definitely a Apple IOS 14 issue as it started after each of us upgraded and yet Apple is not addressing the situation. Incredibly frustrating that this has been going on for so long and no fix on a key feature of a smart phone.

Yep, same experience I had. Fill out a feedback form to Apple about the bug and maybe when they get enough of them they will put time and resources on fixing the problem. It’s still broken in iOS 14.6 with all upgraded apps I have on my and my wife’s iPhone and watches.

I hear they are working on adding new Notification features in iOS 15. Maybe it’ll be accidentally fixed then, like when they accidentally broke it in iOS 14.2.

I had the problem also with Messages. I did not receive notifications when receiving an SMS: if I was waiting for one, I had to go into the application to check if it was recevied. It looks like it works better now that I restored the original values of all settings , but it looks like notifications are not working well for all applications (but most of them , I guess yes..). Of course settings regarding notification for such applications are checked and ok.

I have an iphone 12 updated to iOS 14.6.

Sorry deggie. Wrong again. The original post is marked at the bottom of the post.....[Re-Titled by Moderator].

The idea of this thread is so we can try different things to see if anyone can figure out what to do about our phones. Of course, you DO need to call Apple tech support and get escalated as far up the line as you can get. The more people we get to do this, the more Apple may take this serious.

As someone who was on the first page of this thread, please trust that Apple knows there is an issue. I have spent months reading through people saying the SAME THING about contacting Apple over and over (and over). This is obvi a software issue and likely manifests itself in different ways. Plus, sprinkled in you have a lot of user errors of people who just have their notifications turned off.

Ive always highly suspected that this software has a massive bug with notifications across multiple devices (and yes I know some of you don’t have multiple devices - this isn’t for your issues).

recently, I’ve noticed that even when I’ve seen a text on my phone and have the string open, and there are responses coming through in my phone, my watch will notify me of texts from a few minutes ago that are already delivered and read… it’s a new fun twist to the issues :)
