iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

I missed some very important text messages alert today, and cost me 1.5 hours with apple support today on this issue. At the end, I asked explicitly if this is an iOS issue, the support person say it is not and asked me to send my phone to apple store to fix. I asked "Are you sure?" Support person:"Yes".

I'm glad I find this thread before I head off to apple store.

BTW, I read in this thread that it is a 'feature' in 14.01 to disable lock screen notification. If true, this is the most idiotic idea ever, whoever makes this product level decision deserves to be fired.

Apple needs to fix this update. It’s definitely their move. It never takes them this long to fix something that they’ve messed up in an update. It’s extremely frustrating but I’m glad in a way that it seems that it’s all on Apple and not something that would make me go spend money to have it fixed or to get a new phone. That’s pretty bad that this is that big of an issue for a lot of people. They need to hurry it along and fix it because people need to know when they are being contacted, especially in emergency and important situations. I work from home and I need my phone working fully.

I also sent a DM on Twitter to Apple support. At least they are acknowledging the problem and didn’t suggest restoring or resetting the phone etc. Hopefully it will be soon as this is affecting me at work and not just socially. In the meantime keep leaving feedback, contacting support via all channels as this forum is just user to user and while I’d be surprised if they didn’t monitor at all they definitely don’t interact or use posts here as official bug reports.

Sorry should have been more clearer they asked me to send them screen shots of the settings on my phone. Eg message settings, do not disturb settings.

I did say other day that there is a forum on Apple support and a lot of other people are having the same issue so I doubt it’s anything we have done. It will be some kind of bug in the last update that’s caused this. We can’t all possibly be having the same issue and it’s just a setting that’s off in our phones.

I have been on the phone with a senior agent. My case was sent to their engineers and they are dragging their heals. They tried to blame my phone carrier. I sent the senior agent the link to this thread.

They are aware of this issue but not sure that it will be in the next software update but it is possible. She doesn’t see any information about the next software update.

I’m fully convinced that this issue is a combination of conflicting notifications within the newest software between Apple Watch/Bluetooth connection to Air Pods and settings to “announce” text messages and being on an Audio or FaceTime call on the phone. I think there are massive issues across these devices and notification conflicts.

i think a lot of my lack of notification issues are also not a “lack” but the vibration I normally use to notify me is softer and/or non-existent so it makes me think I missed it. This explains why Apple keeps blaming the issue on other things.

Im honestly shocked with how long it has taken Apple to resolve. Which makes me think this is a deep seeded issue within the new shortcut integration as well... not that anyone needs to hear it but it’s just ridiculous to have a device that doesn’t work properly to have ZERO resolution after this much time.

Since this issue has continued since at least September, perhaps people should send their dissatisfaction to Apple directly; I just did that myself via this link Feedback - iPhone - Apple . Unfathomable to me that those of us who have contacted Apple Support have found Agents don't even have the information that there is a bug and spend hours (of their time and ours) trying to help us.

I have had this issue since I upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro Max and Watch S5. I believe it started with iOS 13. It's intermittent, but tends to mostly inoperable. Text message notifications and sometimes phone calls do not come through with the audible and visual settings set to "on," consequently, I can go long spans without notification on critical messages. It's not a reproducible error "on command," so I can't just show up at a genius bar and show them. Often, the only way I know about a message is the haptic feedback I get from my watch (also always silenced intentionally), otherwise I'd never know I've received a message without picking up the phone.

On top of this, I've experienced situations when I have the volume on the phone set to OFF and I'll get an audible text ping for a message, even though I shouldn't. Something is wrong and needs to be fixed. Glad to know finally, after over a year of this, I'm not crazy. LOL.

The notifications are shown well to me, but the sounds are not reproduced, sometimes fixed alone, but most of the time they do not ring, especially with whatsapp and messages, with restarting the phone does not solve, sometimes it resolves when you activate silence with the physical button and deactivate it, lasts for a while and again stop playing.

Thank you!
