iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

iOS 14.4 on an iPhone12Pro and still not receiving text notifications when my phone is locked. Luckily, I have a Watch, and that buzzes me, but nothing on the phone. I've rebooted, turned off/on iMessages and rebooted in between, turned off/on notifications, swiped back to the "inbox" instead of staying within a message, initiated new messages... still no notifications.

So this is going to sound crazy but my son’s iPhone 8 was not getting notifications of any kind for text messages for several months. After trying every solution I’ve found on this thread I was hopeless and ready to switch to android. Figured I’d try one more thing- Flooding apple support directly every day for a week.... and my emails either worked or it miraculously fixed itself because as of yesterday his notifications, sound and banner, are working fine. Moral of the story, email the crap out of apple support and keep your fingers crossed.

I have 2 identical phones (Xr) on 2 different apple IDs and both paired with an apple watch 3. Both were updated from IOS 13 to 14 at the same time; same for the all next IOS 14 updates.

One phone shows no problem at all, the second one is suffering with the notification problem. Some apps work OK now (WhatsApp), mail notification come in grouped 4 to 6 at a time, usually 15 mins or more after the last email was received.

No changes observed with the IOS 14 updates, I remember WhatApp was problematic initially, not sure if a WhatApp or IOS update is responsable for WhatApp working OK now.

Tried all proposed solutions here and other fora, except for turing off bluetooth and reset then setup iphone as new.

None of solutions solves the issue. Un-paring and erase the Apple watch, the pairing again, which took a lot of time solved nothing.

There doesn't seem to be much of a respons of Apple, on this which may have it ending up in the same bin with the OSX audio stutter with bluetooth problem: not getting resolved. Looking forward to Apple putting cars on our streets...

Let me first thank all those who have tried various solutions to this mess Apple has created with Message notifications.

And let me say that I tried disabling iMessage as a fix, as suggested. And then the problem got worse (how could that be possible?). With iMessage disabled on my iPhone, I then got NO messages... period... on my phone. No text notifications, and no messages showing up, with either the phone locked or unlocked. Yes, SMS was still enabled under Message settings. Messages and notifications still came thru on my Mac and iPad, but my phone was silent, even with bluetooth off, which used to solve the annunciation problem. Facebook Messenger notifications did come thru, however.

Bottom line, iMessage needs to be left ON on my iPhone to get texts.

The mystery and frustrations continue...

I have been working with a senior tech at apple for about 1 month now she has been really nice although no fix yet. I just finished speaking with her again tonight. She says the engineers are working on it and trying to figure it out. But seems they’re at a loss. This has only impacted me for about 1 month and drives me mad. I get no text notifications in an important group chat. The messages are there and the little red number to alert how many texts are there but no buzzing or banners when phone is locked or unlocked. If I don’t sit on the phone waiting for a message I don’t know there is one. Too many iOS updates with no fix.

I love how the moderator removed Tim

Anyway - Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally I fixed my issue after 6 months of this nonsense. I bought a Samsung Galaxy A12 for $180. And I haven't missed a notification since. Is it the best phone ever? Nah. Is it functional? Yeah. Have I died from using it? Nah. Good enough. Good luck yall. I'll be following the thread on my new phone. This was the last thing I sent via Apple Chat supoort.:

" iOS Notifications STILL not working SEVEN MONTHS later. I'm not even bothering to type how much **** I have gone through to try and fix this issue. Case: 101237160691 Opened 11/20/20. Started as just an iMessage issue. Closed after tech support told me it was a third-party bluetooth issue. ********. Reopened 03/11/21. I sent a lot of screenshots. Case was closed without any resolution by telling me they had tried to call on 03/16/21, but A: I received no calls that were not in my contacts on that day and B: The support agent said he would follow up to schedule a call, which he did not. I have now missed important work notifications that have cost me over $600 from multiple apps including Apple Messages, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. I have restored my phone so many times that I keep a list of apps I need to download after a clean install in my Notes. Which is ridiculous.

I worked for Apple for 10 years in Customer Relations out of Austin, TX. This is embarrassing and I just had to buy a Samsung. "

So this issue has been going on for 9 months now! Other Apps notifications on my iPhone work. Only Apple's Messaging app doesn't. Gone thru 14.2. all the way to 14.4.2. No luck. In all versions, no message notification on the iPhone 11; sometimes works on iPhone SE. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

Called Apple Support, and they told me to *try* iOS 14.5.1 which is the latest. Will try on 1 phone to see if issue fixed. The other thing Support said to *try* was to reset all settings, re-enter all settings, and then reload all apps. No commitment whether it will fix the problem, just something to *try* -- almost as if he hadn't heard of this problem before! Really, after 9 months of people reporting this issue, this is where we are? Apple needs to do a better job on training their support or providing them enough information to actually help people if real software problems exist. Jumping thru hoops hoping for a positive outcome isn't helpful. It's a very onerous, time-consuming process that I'm unwilling to do unless they *know* it will actually fix the issue.

A guy named Richard called me from Apple support Wednesday morning. He screen shared my phone, we went through a lot of settings, he had me download 14.5.1, then called back after it finished. He had me turn off iMessage on my iPad that sits in my Square stand for my business. That was the only thing I hadn’t tried but I didn’t mind since I don’t use the iPad for texting. I thought it was fixed until this morning. I texted my Mom, locked the phone, she texted back, no sound. 😑 He’s calling me back tomorrow so get a progress report. Bad news, Richard, it ain’t fixed.

I don’t have a watch, but I do have an iPad. I was lucky enough to have someone from Apple actually call me back after filling out the feedback form. Over the last three weeks he’s had me download lots of analytics and hopefully something can be figured out. He did have me turn iMessage off on my iPad, no big deal I don’t use them there. My suggestion would be for them to allow you to select notification priority between devices, in other words if you want notifications on all devices you can set it as such. If you want only notifications on one device, you can decide which one.

If you turn off wrist detection you turn off most of the features of the watch including EKG fall detection emergency call in other words you might as well just turn off the **** watch. I turned off my watch six weeks ago and I’ve had no problem with notifications I turn the watch on the notification stop. This is really getting ridiculous they spend money for a watch I cannot wear
