iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I just found something

all the texts I wasn’t getting notifications on had a quarter moon beside them

when I went into” information “, there was a box checked , “hide notifications”

im curious to see if I’ll get notified now

why would a person even need that when a user can just silence the phone ?

Having had numerous phone calls with Apple over this now I have stumbled across a bit of a fix for me. With my watch turned off I receive message notifications, as well as WhatsApp. Not all notifications are coming through for other apps but it’s the messaging ones I’m desperate for. Very strange bug. During my Apple care support calls the lady writes everything down, asks me to upload pictures of settings etc but each call now gives me the impression she’s just delaying for an update. The last call I just had asked for the same info and pictures of settings the she asked for in the first call 3 weeks ago!

Maybe 14.3 will cure this, but for now I can’t wear my watch.

Year by year all these problems with Apple stuff just chips away at my confidence in Apple. I’ve gone from a huge fan with every device to a ‘can’t wait to ditch Apple’ kind of guy. They’re just not the company they once were and year on year it gets worse with every new incarnation.

Still an issue, and it's becoming more and more frustrating. I have missed texts from clients, not seeing them or being notified about them until I go back into the thread myself to check. I am noticing it especially with numbers I have not saved to my contacts (I don't feel the need to save every number, especially with the "Maybe:" feature). Most recently, I was texting someone with read receipts on and saw they'd read my message. I thought they just never replied until I turned on my Macbook the NEXT MORNING and checked my dropdown notifications, and there lies their response which never came through on my iPhone or Mac iMessage app, just a random floating notification on my Mac.

PLEASE FIX THIS! It's unprofessional not to respond to people for however long because Apple doesn't want to notify me of a message. These devices are too costly to not have a fix for this by now.

I am beyond frustrated at this point! I am missing text from families and students (I'm a teacher working through virtual learning). It presents that I am ignoring them which is totally unprofessional. I called and spoke with the kindest Apple support person last week, but she wasn't able to fix the fact that I do not receive notifications when I receive texts. It doesn't matter if the number is saved in my phone or not and it doesn't happen to every message.

These devices are far too costly for this issue to be continuing. PLEASE fix this!!!

I’m going to add to the list in hopes of Apple paying attention and fixing this ridiculous problem. Messaging on an iPhone has to be one of the most used features and missing notifications is not only an inconvenience and pain...it could result in personal life issues if people are waiting for timely notifications/responses.

Please fix this Apple!!!!

I've been having this same issue for weeks. Sometimes the notifications come in and sometimes they don't. No vibration or badge icon either. It has been for different contacts too. I don't have anyone muted or anything and the contacts are saved in my phone. I absolutely hate this. If this is a "feature" it's a really dumb one. I've been missing messages, sometimes for days. Why would I want this?

I think there is no question Apple is now aware of this issue. Whether or not they read these forums, many here have called and opened support tickets with regular, and in some cases Senior, Apple advisors in the last couple weeks and have pointed them here. Multiple tech blogs have covered it and even Twitter and tiktok is crazy with reports. Sadly from beta testers it seems we will have to wait until a release after 14.3 since they reported the issues remain. <Fingers crossed> it’s addressed soon!! I’m one of the lucky ones who this is just a minor irritation and not a business or livelihood interrupter.

if you read this and haven’t, open a support ticket and leave feedback or tweet. The more who do the better off we may be in the end.

Same. moment I upgraded my 11 Pro Max to 14 upon release it started. Continued upon restoring backup to 12 Pro Max when it arrived.

Issue has never went away and intermittent nature leads some to believe it’s fixed when it’s not. I quickly learned nothing I could do would fix it. I’m certainly not turning off my Apple Watch as some have suggested it may help. I’ll deal with having to manually check notifications before I do that.

Dude, their advisors are a joke, lately they are condescending, even though they have absolutely no idea what to do, which is even more infuriating. Did switch to Samsung and yesterday I get a call saying it is a hardware issue. Maybe once I try it and see if it is a hardware issue will let you know. By the way, I did have like 5 calls before, and screen sharing and tons of stuff prior to

this

I'm having the same issue that I'm getting no notifications of text/imessages. It doesn't show up on the banner and I have to open my phone and check messages to see if I've missed any texts. This only started happening after the last software update.

Due to how the world is right now, I have to use my phone for work and not being notified when I get a message creates delays and frustration for the people I work with.

I hope this can be resolved promptly.
