iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I am having the same problem on the iPhone 12 on iOS 14.3. I have been missing important texts because of it. I hope it gets fixed soon.

And just to show the range of phones that are having this problem, my phone is original SE (yes, the old one). I've been trying to solve this since iOS 14.1, NOT fixed with update to 14.3

I have an iPhone X, and experienced the same thing after my iOS 14 update.

I reset and restored and thankfully now my phone is back to normal. Note that updating to iOS 14.3, resetting network/all settings, and toggling notification settings (in-app and in iOS settings) did nothing for me.

I’d recommend backing up (to iCloud and to a computer), factory resetting, and installing a fresh copy of iOS 14.3 and restoring from that backup.

I hope that works for you. I was so frustrated, particularly with the lack of support and solutions, and I hope this provides a definitive solution to everyone having this problem.

For me, the update 14.3 fixed most of this problem. however, the update 14.2 turned notifications to silent on all my contacts. I still have to turn notifications back on for each contact. then i get the notification.

I'm confused by this - I don't see a Notifications setting at all on any of my Contacts.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro and I am having this problem as well. I have to wear my watch all the time, just to know when I get a text. I trying changing the default text alert tone and that seemed to help for a day. It is very frustrating as I use this phone for work and it is unprofessional for me not to respond for hours. I just updated to 14.3 this morning and still having the same problem.

Consider yourself lucky that you are getting Notifications on your watch! I'm only missing intermittent Notifications, but when it happens they don't go to the Watch either

Today I've finally noticed this issue.

Thought it was an issue with my Apple Watch, factory reset it.

Then I noticed I get all texts/SMS from Messages delivered, but they don't light up the phone or play a sound when the phone is locked.

Sometimes it works again, but most of the times it doesn't.

Spent an hour chatting with Customer Support until I found this; customer support didn't even mention this thread or that there are reported issues with notifications in the latest version of iOS.

My iPhone does not give text message notifications or vibration alerts, unless the BLUETOOTH function is TURNED OFF within SETTINGS (not from control panel). I have gone through countless other strategies to test: reset, sounds and haptics, accessibilities - vibration ON, etc etc etc.

Only when the Bluetooth function is turned off within settings, does this work. Turning Bluetooth off with the Control Panel, doesn't change this (I understand this method doesn't actually tuen off the Bluetooth, but keeps it on and doesn't allow connection to other devices).

This same issue happened 3 years ago with my iPhone 5s. I have done complete reinstalls on that old phone to try and remedy, to no avail, and have done them again with this iPhone 11 Pro while setting up the phone

Please help.

I have found the only way to get notifications is every time you go out of the message screen you need to clear the app, for some reason if you text someone and just hit the lock button without going out of the messages and clearing it off the background the phone acts as if you still have it open and on that message so therefore you it thinks you have read that message and that’s why you never get any kind of notification. So frustrating! And needs to be fixed!

I have a similar issue, when my phone is unlocked i get NO notifications for text. I have missed so many text replies because i text someone, go to another app or set my phone down and after wondering why I haven't got a reply i see the person replied almost immediately but i didn't get ANY notification. Its SO frustrating.
