iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I’ve been having problems since day one of iOS 14. It was also they same day I got my 12 pro, so I thought it was the phone but the problem still persists. I have 2 MacBooks, an iPad, and iPhone 11, an iPhone 12pro, and Apple Watch, and i have to clear sms & MMS messages on each device. Sometimes my phone will ding, sometimes the watch, most times neither. This has been a sad state of affairs for weeks.

I noticed this issue sometime after upgrading my iPhone 7 to Ver 14. No notifications for messages or emails. I tried everything. My Mac is not the problem because I rarely use it. When not in use, it is off. So with a iPhone 7, and a Watch 4, nothing on either device. I used to get notifications on both. When someone calls me it rings both devices. But nothing for messages or emails. I gave up, thinking the iPhone 7 was broke some how.

So I bought a iPhone 12 brand new, thinking that would fix the problem. It did not, same problem. Complained to Apple, then I saw this thread. One user said, "turn off Bluetooth", did that, and lo and behold, I get notifications on the phone. Turn Bluetooth back on and no notifications. Turn it back off and notifications work. That is unacceptable, Watch needs to be paired with the phone so need Bluetooth. Saw another post that stated, goto the watch app on your phone, tap "Notifications" then scroll down to "Messages" tap that, then "Custom" then "Notifications Off" and that worked. The phone gets notifications but not the watch. Check it out if you can live without notifications on your watch.

Same issue as the rest. Updated to ios 14 and subsequent updates and now I don’t get text notifications. I’ve checked my notification, sound, and do not disturb settings a million times. This is extremely frustrating because it has been going on for about 2 months now for me (and longer for others). It’s unbelievable Apple has not corrected this bug yet.

I have the same problem for the last couple of months, but it comes and goes. I won’t receive any text notifications at all (regardless of wether that’s on the lock screen or while I’m using my phone). Some days I’ll receive one or two notifications but that’s it. When I send a message it also says “read” immediately even though it isn’t. It’s really annoying that I never actually know when I have new texts. Apple NEEDS to fix this ASAP.

Having the same problem on my iPhone 8 Plus. I do get message notifications when the phone is unlocked, but when the phone is locked, the message silently appears on the lock screen. My Apple Watch never gets any sort of notification. Everything was fine up to 14. Just installed the 14 beta...still the same. Since I need notifications for work, will probably go back to old iPhone 6 running iOS 12.

Pretty frustrating that the device cost over 1k dollars and has more issues than any apple device i’ve ever owned. I ask Siri to play my music and she always says “there is a problem with apple music” before playing my songs, my cell phone signal randomly drops and I have to restart the phone, my text tone only works sometimes, my text notifications only appear sometimes, also I have had random freezing of the screen as well.

Simply unacceptable for a device that costs this much, and apple didn’t even have the courtesy to provide a charger plug.

When a msg arrives and a notification comes through, it only sits as a visual msg on the screen with no sound. As soon as I go to unlock the phone, the sound notification goes off. Was this one of the so called "Improvements" with ios14? It seems pointless not having the sound notification when the msg arrives and totally useless getting it when you unlock the phone. Has anyone been able to restore the sound notification as the msg arrives instead of when you unlock the phone?

It’s January and I’ve had this issue since September. I recently updated it to the newest IOS 14.3 and now I’m not getting message notifications OR even phone call notifications. It’s not consistent. Sometimes I’ll receive notifications, and then it just stops throughout the day randomly. This is extremely frustrating.
