iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

Win Win! LOL At least we can hear each other. Everyone's out to lunch in America. I think we always were. We just notice it more. These posts pry chime on some computer in a closet somewhere on the West Coast. My BT is tied into my diabetic monitoring system and can't do without it. Having to chose health over being available is a joke. Anyway Cheers!

Four months later and it still isn't fixed. When people who I don't text often text me I get the notifications but the person I text the most I hardly see their notifications and it already says I read it when I never even opened up the messenger app. EXTREMELY disappointing from such a big company. This just shouldn't be an issue at all for a company that makes billions a year. This should have been fixed as soon as the problem came about. Why is it still here? Well that's beyond me. Apple should have fixed this a long time ago and it should have never been an issue in the first place. I hope someone from Apple does read this so they can fix this problem because it is outrageous that it is still happening after all this time.

I posted this before. IOS 14.2 added a new hidden feature into all contacts(silent notification). 14.3 did fix some of the issues. However any contacts I had before 14.2 will be silent. this feature must ne turned off per contact. To disable this annoying feature, go into the contact when the person contacts you. the feature is found in the information tab of the message. Find it and turn it off(in i message, not general contacts).

I tried the silent notification change in iMessage on my wife's message and. Now I get nothing on my watch or phone. I put it back to the setting it was on. Instead, I at least get a ding for my important contacts on my watch by changing emergency bypass to on in the contacts app for text messaging. I did that for the ringtone as well so now I know when my wife is texting of calling. even with silent mode set on the watch. I don't get any notification alert on my phone, only my watch.

Does Apple know about this? It’s been a problem since November, many people have it, and there doesn’t seem to be a rush to fix it.

I have had to tell everybody to call or use Messenger, and that’s certainly going to drive people away from Apple, including me. While I’ve had an IPhone since they came out in 2007, other phones are now just as good which means iPhone, for me, it is a heritage product and habit. Not to be a hysteric or Karen, but this issue is bad enough to give up the phone and switch to Android. (For an example, the very day this began I missed a text stating my daughter-in-law was in labor).

Has anybody talked to Apple? Has there been a valid response? I assumed they read here but if they said anything, I missed it.

I turned Bluetooth off and everything is normal now (I wasn't getting audible alerts for Messages). Everything is working for me now, including my Apple watch, which I assumed it would stop working when I turned off Bluetooth. I turn it back on for my Bluetooth sleep machine at night then back off in the morning and all is fine.

I suspect there are multiple bugs due to the differences in the how the problems are exhibiting themselves.

The problem with not using Messages is that you no longer get SMS messages. Has anyone tried turning off iMessage to see if that changes anything?

My issue started when I downloaded IOS14.3 on new years day. No WhatsApp or Instagram badges, pop up notifications or phone calls. iMessage and Facebook messenger is ok for some unknown reason. Very embarrassing as I have missed several messages and calls from work colleagues, friends and family. I am not the sort of person to check my phone unless I get a notification, so it is very frustrating
