iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

Is anyone else having the issues with voicemail coming in days later? I have had this happen so many times. I am a chaplain at a hospital and have had it happen many times when they have called for me to go in to give the last rights to patients I don't get the voicemail until days later. It also happened when my sister called for my dad when he was dying and also again today with another voicemail that was left on Friday.

I have called apple and have opened a case as probably many of you have but they seem to be not doing much to fix the issue. Android here I come if they don't fix this soon!

I received this. After reading your post snd knowing what I went through when my mom recently passed away... I wanted to pass this on to you.

I think I’ve solved the problem I’ve turned off my scheduled do not disturb and now my messages are coming back through again.

I posted this before. IOS 14.2 added a new hidden feature into all contacts(silent notification). 14.3 did fix some of the issues. However any contacts I had before 14.2 will be silent. this feature must ne turned off per contact. To disable this annoying feature, go into the contact when the person contacts you. the feature is found in the information tab of the message. Find it and turn it off(in i message, not general contacts).

if you check the conversations where this happens (by going to the conversation, tap on the person at the top and go to "info", is the "hide alerts" option checked?

Because that's what I discovered did this to me. Yes, it disables the sound, the lockscreen thing, every aspect of getting notified of new texts.

It seems that they added this new feature, to hide alerts for specific people -- that's fine by me -- but the problem is that it randomly activates after the update, for certain conversations. I believe if you uncheck the option though it should fix it permanently for that conversation thread at least.

**I believe I found the fix. In the text message conversation, go to the very top and tap on on the i/info at the top right. In the menue that pops up, thereI believe I found the fix. In the text message conversation, go to the very top and tap on on the i/info at the top right. In the menue that pops up, there is an option called "hide alerts". Disable that -- I now get alerts for this conversation again.

Needless to say, I never activated this feature -- I suspect that for old contacts that were carried over into the new version, somehow this might sometimes be checked by default without us knowing?

It's also possible that not everyone posting in this thread is actually having the same problem, with the same solution. But I hope this helps somebody out there! is an option called "hide alerts". Disable that -- I now get alerts for this conversation again.**

I have been having this issue since updating to 14. I refuse to go any further, since 14.1 and on lose all notifications. I currently have no audible notifications just visual ones. If I go further I’ll lose those too. Apple doesn’t read this forum but I keep checking anyway in case someone smarter than Apple comes up with a fix.

Ever since I updated my iPhone XR to the iOS 14, I do not always get iMessage notifications (my sms texts seem to be uneffected). Some of the contacts I speak to through text more frequently AND have iPhones, I sometimes don’t receive their texts until hours later. (Once even almost 24 hours). The only thing that kicks these iMessages trough is to turn my phone off and back on. I have to be conscious to turn my phone off and back on to make sure I am getting my texts. It’s ANNOYING. It also doesn’t always notify me when I do receive a text. I have to actually look at my text messages. This needs to be fixed because it’s been happening for MONTHS now and I’m seriously considering switching brands completely. I have been brand loyal for years, but unfortunately they are not fixing this issue in a timely manner.

I turned off Bluetooth and notifications worked for me sporadically. I have since unpaired my Apple watch and totally removed it from my account. I have now not missed any notifications for two weeks and Carplay GPS is no longer causing my entire infotainment system to crash in my Honda.

Ridiculous I have had to go to this length for a positive result but wanted to share my experience to maybe help others.

I’m having the same problem. None of my notifications (text included) are showing up on my iPhone 12 Pro Max (iOS 14.3) anymore. I can hear the sound but nothing shows up unless I navigate to the text and find it there unread. It just started today and I tried all the tricks posted here and nothing solves it. Super frustrating!

I turned off Bluetooth and then sent myself a test text message from https://www.bulksms.com/test/ and I received a notification. I turned Bluetooth back on and sent another test text message and did not receive a notification, so I turned Bluetooth back off and now everything works as it should. My Apple Watch works (receives notifications) despite not being paired to my phone through Bluetooth. I assume that is because I am currently on a wifi network.

Just to throw another variable in this problem. My problem persists, though a little better after 14.3 with missed notifications. In addition to the general no notification (no sound, lock screen banner, etc.) Is anyone having issues with the volume controls also which leads to missed notifications due to no sound?

For example if I am playing an app that is a game and turn the sound down with the side buttons (iPhone XS) it has intermittently been turning my notification volume down as well once I leave that app. This has never happened before the last few weeks. Sometimes I am not able to turn up the volume again unless I force quit all my apps. Otherwise, the side buttons won't adjust the ringer (and notification) volume and just the "app" sound volume. So I am left with no sound for notifications or lock sound etc. iOS 14 is what is going to make me get rid of Apple products. Its insane this isn't fixed yet.
