I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

I have the same issue everyone is reporting here. I have the iPhone 8 Plus and am on ios 14.2. Latest update stopped messages from notifying me from several different apps, including Mail, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter...etc.

I am really unhappy that this change was made in the release. It's extremely inconvenient. Because I'm not getting notifications I have potention employers calling me and asking if I received their email with job descriptions...etc. Because I don't watch email all day non-stop, I can sometimes go hours without checking email and have missed some urgent stuff.

Apple: Please undo this for us, or create a way for people to choose whether they wish to use this part of the update or not.

I’m having the same issues. I have a 10S, and it’s updated to iOS 14.2. I noticed the issue starting with the update, and it’s mostly with SMS texts from androids. I’ve restarted my phone a LOT, and I’ve turned the iMessages on and off several times. I saw that they came out with an update for iPhone 12s but not any other phone.

Same issue here. The Apple feedback form is extremely frustrating because, as another user stated, it doesn't even account for the latest iOS. I rely on my phone for work and everyday life. To not know when my messages will randomly decide to stop notifying me that someone has contacted me is beyond problematic. I kept thinking Apple would figure this out and address it ASAP but that was apparently asking too much. This truly needs to get resolved.

This is detrimental and hurting my business. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP! I am not getting notifications from numbers that are not "iphone" I signed up with Redfin to receive Real Estate leads and they send out a mass message and whoever replies YES first gets the lead. I am not getting notifications everything is on the highest volume possible and it still DOES NOT notify me. Guess who's not getting leads????

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and iOS 14.2.1 (the latest update at this time.) Every now and again I’ll get a sound notification and vibration for a text sometimes and other times I won’t even know that I have a text message waiting until either my Apple Watch reminds me or I open my phone to see a red notification on my SMS messaging app. Is there any update here as to what Apple is doing to fix this bug? The point to having a phone is so that you can be reached anywhere, at anytime by a noise and or vibration. This is aggravating especially on a brand new phone.

When I filed my complaint/feedback with Apple just a few minutes ago, I wasn’t even given the option to select the most up to date iOS 14.2.1 the latest option available was 14.1 so that kind of clues me in that they’re behind. According to a couple things I’ve read they intentionally wrote this into the update, why is beyond me. The point of having a phone is to be reached anytime, anywhere for any reason and this hinders that. From what I have found, originally the latest update was meant for the 12 mini’s in response to screen responsiveness, however all other 12 models have been the fall outs. I haven’t even had this phone 2 weeks and now this is what I’m dealing with, let’s hope they get it together and repair this bug.
