iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I agree it’s a software issue, however there’s got to be some other factor involved. None of my family or friends is having this issue but it’s clear from this forum a lot of people are. I just wonder if the percentage is too small for Apple to take seriously

i noticed something else I wonder if it is related. Sometimes when I lock my phone it doesn’t make the “lock sound”. Usually if I unlock it and relock it does make the sound. I wonder if the lack of notifications has any correlation to it not making a sound when I lock it. I’ve also had other random volume control issues - namely if I turn the volume down using the side buttons in a game, when I return to the Home Screen I am unable to adjust the ringer volume until I force quit the other app - otherwise the buttons adjust the sound volume instead of the ringer. Could all be related.

About the “click when locking” my iPhone 12 skips on this sound from time to time too. Thought I was going deaf. I also experience the notification issue in messages. Just today I even didn’t get a reminder notification. My iPad made a sound in the other room but the phone remained silent. It’s a notification that repeats daily and used to go to both of my devices all the time.

something weird is happening here....

PLEASE fix the text notification alert issue! I know multiple people have identified this as a problem and now I'm adding my name to the list! I have the iPhone 12 Pro and always keep it updated (currently with 14.4). I have missed more than one important message because of this problem. I do not want to have to carry my phone around and check it constantly!! HELP!!!

I ALSO DO NOT WANT TO WIPE EVERYTHING OUT AND START OVER...TOO MUCH WILL BE LOST AND UNRETREIVABLE.

Apple is not reading here. You can contact them through the Contact Support link at the top right of every page of these forums.

If you back up your phone then restore it from the back up, you won't lose anything.

If you have a tiny half moon (do not disturb sign) to the left of the message , then you have enabled do not disturb for messages from that contact. This is easily done if you swipe left to show the delete message option as the do not disturb option is next to the delete option. To turn off do not disturb, swipe left and select the do not disturb option to toggle it off again.

iOS 14.4 on an iPhone12Pro and still not receiving text notifications when my phone is locked. Luckily, I have a Watch, and that buzzes me, but nothing on the phone. I've rebooted, turned off/on iMessages and rebooted in between, turned off/on notifications, swiped back to the "inbox" instead of staying within a message, initiated new messages... still no notifications.

Still happens for me on iOS 14.4. It appears to only affect sms verification codes. It feels like this is because iOS usually silences these to give you the ability to autocomplete web forms. However, when not using my phone, I should still get a notification on my phone and watch. Currently nothing... the screen doesn’t even light up. Tap the screen and there it is.

Got to notifications then select banners allow always. Then scroll down in the notifications menu to messages. Then select allow notifications. It worked as I just did it myself and had a friend message and boom 🤯 it works! This has been painstakingly annoying over the last few months to work out. But got there. Hopefully this helps

Click on messages and make sure all 3 are ticked on. Allow banners when locked and it will definitely work I’ve had this problem for months and worked it out going through settings the other day and checking this thread hence I posted it straight away as I know this is frustrating. Notifications, banners - allow when locked. Messages, allow always or tick all boxes so you can get notifications. See how notifications is untucked on yours. I have 11pro running iOS 14.4

Unfortunately, it still doesn't work for me. I've set:

Show Previews: Always under both "Notifications" and "Messages"

Alerts: Lock Screen and Banners

I've also verified my sound and vibration settings are all on

If my phone is "dark" I get no notification but do get a buzz on my Watch, or a notification on my MacBook. If I tap my phone's screen to wake it up, I can see the message preview there, but I had no idea it came in. If my phone is unlocked and I'm looking at I WILL get a notification and text alert...but not when it's locked and not in use. So. Annoying. I really only like wearing my Watch to track exercise, but now I'm wearing it constantly for this sole reason...perhaps that was Apple's plan all along ;-)
