iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

I am having text message issues with my new iPad Pro running iPadOS 14.2. I have one member of my family that does not use an iOS device and thus uses text messages. None of his messages have appeared on my iPad since I first set it up, while my iPhone does continue to get messages. Also, the group thread I have with my entire family does not stay pinned in Messages either.

I just got off the phone with one of their senior advisors again and she told me that the engineering team wanted to replicate the issue and then run diagnostics. I told her that it was intermittent and I don't know when it was going to happen again. She said that she had said that to them before they requested it. It seems like they are not thinking.

The first time they blamed my SIM card. I said to her how can this be as there are many of us, from different carriers and probably different countries.

She also said that the engineering team doesn't put much stock in these discussions. She said that she couldn't verify even if they read these. The engineers saw this link to our discussion but she isn't sure that they even bothered to read it.

She couldn't even tell me if the fix was in the next update!

I am now demanding compensation!

Another hour and a ½ wasted that I can't get back.

I've been reading through the many many posts and see that some of us have pursued the issue with Apple Support and have Case Numbers. When I was on my (second) lengthy call with Apple Support I did mention the thread here with, at that time, over 90K views (now over 100K). My agent was interested and listened while I read some of them that were relevant to questions she had. And, just now I saw someone say the agent they talked to didn't put much stock in discussions and wasn't interested.

What I'm wondering is this --- would it be helpful (to Apple and to us) to have a list (separate thread, I'm thinking) of ONLY open case numbers referencing this issue? Then when someone is talking to Apple Support they could point to open cases? If they could put related case numbers together, perhaps that could help with problem diagnosis. What do you all think (I am not a frequent user of this Discussion forum, so I really don't know if this would be appropriate).

THIS. I had this issue start in Feb. with the iOS update. iPhone X. I spent close to 12 hours on the phone with Apple over a two month period. I reset every setting. Logged every failure. Reset my phone. Deleted apps. Logged all phone data via an app they installed. Tried EVERYTHING. It’s still happening. They have no clue. The irony? It’s only on Apple’s messaging app. Every other app works, you know, like it’s supposed to. But not Apple’s own app.

In my case, I think it’s related to weak signal. I can still send and receive calls fine, but no text notification will ring inONE spot in my home. Works elsewhere. Oh, I *receive* the messages. Just no notification. I’ve given up on Apple. I was going to buy the 12 Pro — but seriously, if a $1200 cell phone can’t notify when it gets a text from another Apple device and it’s nearly 2021? No thanks. Totally bummed they don’t fix this. It’s fairly fundamental to function.

I have no iPhone.

I have the same issue. I’ve tried all the suggested fixes and nothing works. I rely on the notification and the buzzing to know when I have a text. It’s super annoying when I text someone and I’m waiting for a response...so then I go do something else and I get frustrated at them that they haven’t responded in a while so I go to check and I see that they responded like a minute after I texted. But then I just ended up ignoring them for like 30 minutes because I was still waiting on a response. Makes me want to go back to Android. Not having a notification even when I’m actively on my phone is stupid.

Still an issue, and it's becoming more and more frustrating. I have missed texts from clients, not seeing them or being notified about them until I go back into the thread myself to check. I am noticing it especially with numbers I have not saved to my contacts (I don't feel the need to save every number, especially with the "Maybe:" feature). Most recently, I was texting someone with read receipts on and saw they'd read my message. I thought they just never replied until I turned on my Macbook the NEXT MORNING and checked my dropdown notifications, and there lies their response which never came through on my iPhone or Mac iMessage app, just a random floating notification on my Mac.

PLEASE FIX THIS! It's unprofessional not to respond to people for however long because Apple doesn't want to notify me of a message. These devices are too costly to not have a fix for this by now.

I am beyond frustrated at this point! I am missing text from families and students (I'm a teacher working through virtual learning). It presents that I am ignoring them which is totally unprofessional. I called and spoke with the kindest Apple support person last week, but she wasn't able to fix the fact that I do not receive notifications when I receive texts. It doesn't matter if the number is saved in my phone or not and it doesn't happen to every message.

These devices are far too costly for this issue to be continuing. PLEASE fix this!!!

I’m going to add to the list in hopes of Apple paying attention and fixing this ridiculous problem. Messaging on an iPhone has to be one of the most used features and missing notifications is not only an inconvenience and pain...it could result in personal life issues if people are waiting for timely notifications/responses.

Please fix this Apple!!!!

I've been having this same issue for weeks. Sometimes the notifications come in and sometimes they don't. No vibration or badge icon either. It has been for different contacts too. I don't have anyone muted or anything and the contacts are saved in my phone. I absolutely hate this. If this is a "feature" it's a really dumb one. I've been missing messages, sometimes for days. Why would I want this?

Same. moment I upgraded my 11 Pro Max to 14 upon release it started. Continued upon restoring backup to 12 Pro Max when it arrived.

Issue has never went away and intermittent nature leads some to believe it’s fixed when it’s not. I quickly learned nothing I could do would fix it. I’m certainly not turning off my Apple Watch as some have suggested it may help. I’ll deal with having to manually check notifications before I do that.
