iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

Not true. Mine will do both when it works. When the phone always worked with the watch with notifications. after the update, the phone quit and the watch receives most notifications.

geggie, since it is not happening to you, please let those of us deal with this instead of you saying things that are not true. I read the same thing you are referring to. That was never proven. Apple told me that was not true when I brought that up to them as well.

There is a problem with the iphone update on some iphones. I have had the iWatches and phones ever since they came out. I have never had a problem getting notifications on either until recently. I know both very well and know the iPhone is not working correctly since the update or around the same time.

Is true. It has been designed that way since the first generation watch which I had. It is in Apple's documentation. It was designed to work that way to keep people from irritating everyone around them by having their notifications sound on both their Watch and iPhone simultaneously. There are some kludges available to make it sound on both but it limits the use of all features of the Watch. And I didn't say both don't receive the notifications, they do, it just only gives an alert on one device, the Watch. If yours was doing both when it worked something was wrong.

Hello everybody,

I want to share how I solved the problem with notifications.

Before I go to the solution, I want to mention that "Reset all settings" helped me but temporary. So I tried different things like disabling Bluetooth and repairing/unpairing my watches, but that didn't help.

Then one day, during the app update, I faced the "storm" of notifications (100+ notifications appeared) that reached my phone at the same time. So I assumed that there's an app or several apps triggering the problem are being kicked from RAM/" push" listening during the update.

But after the "storm" the normal behavior hadn't returned, so I've started removing apps that were recently updated one by one, and voila, after removing one of these apps, I faced the notification "storm" again, but this time normal behavior persisted.

To make the proof, I tried to install/remove the app several times, and the result was positive all the time:

Installing -> enabling notifications for the app -> no pushes

Removing the app -> notification storm -> pushes are back

In my case, the problematic app was immobilienscout24.

I believe the easiest way to find the problematic app is to reset settings and then enable notifications for a bunch of apps, check if notifications are working fine, and enable notifications for another bunch.

Good luck!

Ok. I was in the same scenario except we were sharing an Apple ID.

Perhaps you have done this already, but try some tests on receiving messages while your wife has the watch on her wrist and unlocked (ie has entered her passcode) and then with her watch off her wrist.

That is what I did and found that I received message notifications while my iPhone was asleep with black screen when her watch was just sat on the table. When it was on her arm and unlocked I had no notifications.

I do think that my phone was somehow trying to send those alerts to her watch, as is supposed to happen, but they just weren’t getting there.

I had the problem also with Messages. I did not receive notifications when receiving an SMS: if I was waiting for one, I had to go into the application to check if it was recevied. It looks like it works better now that I restored the original values of all settings , but it looks like notifications are not working well for all applications (but most of them , I guess yes..). Of course settings regarding notification for such applications are checked and ok.

I have an iphone 12 updated to iOS 14.6.

Thank you for that helpful reply. And I am sure the "honeypot" thread will continue. You said from the beginning that you do not have this problem. I do not believe "honeypot" ?? that is a major problem at all. I thinks some of us are further along with working on this issue than others. There very well may be further complications for those with the iWatch than those that don't. The fact is there is a notification issue that we all have in common.

I do not believe that is true. No notifications is no notifications. Something is triggering this bug. We have discussed setting all the way to eliminating apps to resetting the phone. Many of us have talked with Apple and climbed the totem pole with different "levels" from tech support and from what I can easily assume, no one got anywhere. Lastly, every time some is told they have a different problem , as you say, with notifications, and follow your or someones advice, it winds up making it worse. I would not recommend anyone make all these changes you and some others have suggested. I have not heard one person any of it helped but made it worse. My advice is to log all the complaints, call Apple to make a complaint and hopefully, Apple will get the idea and get to a fix.
