iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

I realize that Apple doesn't read this forum however there are thousands with this notification problem that do. I follow this faithfully and have noticed that there isn't one issue common to everybody. Some use bluetooth, some don't. Some have Apple watches, some don't. I, for one, get visual and audible notifications UNLESS I'm using my phone. I'm using 14.0 and staying there because subsequent updates have lost ALL notifications and at least I'm able to see when I have a text. With the hundreds, if not thousands of complaints to senior techs etc. Apple's silence is very telling. It means they are CLUELESS to a fix and there's no going back. I will continue to watch this forum in case lightning strikes and a member finds a fix without a tech.

Responding makes him feel important. I mean, nobody read this apparently. First mistake on idris is literally assume that you, other people here and I have not at all opened tickets with apple support and “senior advisors” telling you to restart your device as a solution, or restore the device...... seriously? As far as why these forums exist, to share solutions or even avoid a call to apple (if there is a solution) since it is painful to go through their “troubleshooting steps” to then have your screen shared with them (5 senior advisors by the way) and 2 months later they just tell you to wait. I bought another one just FYI and everything works just FYI, so maybe a replacement is the solution

ha - yes, mind blowing feedback as always (really wish people would read what others have posted before yet another link to notify Apple)

Fun new glitches I’m experiencing:

I am intermittently getting iMessages that deliver to my watch but not my phone (like absolutely no record of the text on my phone, not just that it delivers to the phone as read)

I also have a fun new issue where I muted a group text one day and now, it reverts back to mute no matter how many times I manually take it off mute (both through the bell icon and through the slider under info for the group chat)

not looking for workarounds here just stating updates/newfound bugs in this software debacle. Absolutely makes no sense how they managed to mess up the integration and handoff off messages between devices

It would be nice if Apple at least acknowledged they have a problem. It’s been months and nothing but silence.

And it's not going to happen. This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Apple's participation here is very limited. There are some Apple staff who answer questions that have gone unanswered (in certain topic areas) for more than 12 hours. They provide links to existing support articles and basic troubleshooting.

No one from Apple is reading here for bug reports or feedback. You can let Apple know your thoughts here:

Pretty annoying not to get sound notifications on text or phone calls. They do not work on my watch either.

iPhone 12 pro max and Apple Watch 6 both current OS.

if this is an intentional update not great experience.

I've noticed a lot of updates to features that make the user experience worse ie two selections where one used to work. For example using iMessage info button used to take you to the actual information, but now I have to select ANOTHER info button. Ridiculous

This whole notifications thing is driving me crazy. Sometime I’ll get notifications for text messages and sometimes not. But it’s not just messages, it’s other apps too and voicemail. Yesterday my watch said I had a voice message but didn’t come up on my phone. Today I see a badge notification for an app but nothing in my notifications screen. Yes my setting ARE correct.

This is absolutely ridiculous and not being addressed after 88 pages of complaints. You’re losing it Apple.

Well, I wrote before and just want to add - still the same problems: I don’t receive text and sound notifications of WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram. And even calls in WhatsApp and Telegram. So I can’t use it at all. I can’t work normally cause all communication in those apps. And after all I downloaded new app Clubhouse and I get it’s notifications all the time. OMG. Redownlod of Telegram and Instagram didn’t help. I can’t understand why only some of notifications doesn’t work and others work. And of course I tried everything. Without success...

I hope this helps some people. Pay attention: I've been using MacOS since 1994, and iOS since 2009.

THIS CAN'T BE FIXED. For most people, this can't be fixed by turning off Bluetooth, or toggling the 'hide alerts' switch, or anything else.

Please don't waste hours of your life trying to fix this, I've done that for several years so I can report back and tell everyone else not to.

There isn't a solution here in 85 pages of comments, stop reading and go play outside.

Background info:

Since I've had my iPhone 8, I've been unable to leave Bluetooth on and also get iMessage notifications.

Since iOS 14, I never know if I'm going to get them.

I know what I'm saying - I work with iOS, Android, Ubuntu touch, macOS, Linux, and Windows. I've built several computers, modified GPUs, put custom firmware on routers, cameras, and God knows what else. I can fix a lot of things, but not this.

------------

Fun tip: I've found that when you've just met someone, it's really easy to get them to believe you didn't get their messages because "Bluetooth was on" or "I don't know what happened." And people you're dating think it's hilarious!

Since the 5S, moved to the 7 and now to the 11 Pro Max, never had any sort of issue or bug. This is the first time I am experiencing a quite irritating and frustrating issue with the iPhone. Although I do understand it may be a quite puzzling issue as this occurs under a variety of circumstances and it differs for nearly everyone, I hope the technicians manage to find a solution to this problem as many are affected daily by it, and for some people it might even affect their job.

FYI: for me this occurred after changing date and time a few times to a Russian time zone.

Issue: Any sort of text message/imsessage does no proc a notification in lock screen, lock screen also doesn't light up despite not showing the notification, no banner while phone is unlocked and in use, badge also not visible on messages icon.
