iOS 14 text notification issues

This has been an ongoing pain since November. I have no other devices and always have Bluetooth off. When using wired headphones and talking on the phone I receive no audible notifications at all. From reading this thread these past few months I have seen that there is no fix. These workarounds are just that. Some have success, some don’t. We shouldn’t have to work around anything. These phones are very expensive things. The software that operates them are included in the price. Major failure on Apple’s part over this one.

Not exactly a response to this but I updated to IOS 14.4.2 on Thursday and as of Sunday my Bluetooth doesn’t ring in the car when a call comes in. Music stops for the call but doesn’t ring.

IOS 14 has been the worst! Get it your her apple.

I am not able to receive text messages while in my car. I have checked my settings and DND is turned off, DND while driving is set to manual. The phone works fine, no problem. In checking my phone, while in the car, even on the phone itself, the ringtone is out. As soon as I turn off the car, the text ringer goes back on.

I just got a brand new iPhone SE today and I am already noticing this issue. I don’t receive notifications for a handful of texts, and especially if someone sends me multiple texts. Frustrating! Should have just kept my 6+ years old phone.

I pre-ordered the iphone12 mini and have had this issue the entire time with this phone. Most one-time texts like verification codes are the main ones I don't get notifications for. Then it's just sporadic and indiscriminate which texts from my contacts don't come in. Never relates to driving, if the person is pinned, etc. My mom also just got an iphone 12 mini and has been having this issue. I had a practice of waiting on any ios updates for these buggy reasons, but this thread was started 7 months ago. This is ridiculous.

SMS messages are a carrier feature. Start by contacting your carrier. Meanwhile, use the phone function to call your girlfriend.

Same here, some apps notify, others don’t. In addition some notifications on the icon don’t even disappear after reading the notified content .

It’s a shame for such a premium product, that apple hasn’t been able to release any fix for this bug until now.

Exactly, I use my phone for my business, it’s extremely frustrating to get a text or message from a client and they think I’m ignoring them for hours on end.

If this affected every single unit then I think we would have seen a solution by this point. Are they even trying to fix it? Who knows.

Same here. As this occurs only on non-apple-apps on my iPhone, German support advised me to contact the app manufacturers. As if I have not done that...

It's really sad that a premium manufacturer, who's premium pricing once guaranteed groundbreaking usability and UX-design, hasn't found a solution to this kind of problem yet. If turning off the BT-adapter is the only solution: sorry guys, that's not even an option if apple "reinstalls" the headphone-jack. ;)

Your approach of deleting apps makes sense to me. The app I'm having the most trouble with is messages, and I did delete individual messages, but I'm not aware of a way to delete and reinstall the entire messages app. Any thoughts on that?

Just installed 14.5.1 and issue still remains.

Messages and WhatsApp ‘occasionally’ pings when I have the screen on otherwise, it’s silent.

Only time I know I’ve had messages is when my watch vibrates.

Same for me. I've suffered with this on and off ever since I upgraded to iPhone12/IOS 14 about six months ago. But it's become worse with 14.5.1. I receive zero notification on about 1 out of 5 text messages received. I have not attempted any remediation, other than turning my phone off/on.

I have tried EVERYTHING suggested online and my mom is still having this issue with her phone. Just got it last month and it’s up-to-date on software. I don’t know what else to do and I’m at my wits end.

If you were receiving audible alerts on both you either used a kludge to make that happen or something was wrong with either your Watch/iPhone or both. I started with the 1st Generation Watch and the whole intent was to direct notifications solely to your Watch where you could glance at them. People around you don't want to hear multiple beeping when you get a message.

I sent a email to Tim Cook and a female from executive relations called me. They did a test on my phone and they say that, “ it is Apple‘s position that it is a carrier issue.” I said how can I be a carrier issue when it is happening all over the world. She didn’t answer me.

My advice to everyone is to email Tim Cook and demand a resolution. ***@apple.com
