iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

The workaround I've been successful with is to turn Bluetooth off. Once I did that I've started to receive notifications on both my phone and my watch. Turn Bluetooth back on and all notifications stop on both of my devices. I've tried all the other suggestions and this is the one that worked for me. Maybe...it'll help someone else.

Since they don't monitor this discussion, I've reported the issue to Apple several times.

I don't think it's Bluetooth. For me it was related to iMessage.

The Messages app combines iMessage communications and SMS messages. Apple created iMessage when mobile carriers charged for SMS messages. iMessage will work across multiple Apple devices. I have had cases where someone will send me an iMessage and my iPad will accept the message. Then I never see it on the phone. If you only have an iPhone and no other Apple device, iMessage is useless. It's a PITA. You don't need it.

FYI, in Messages, SMS messages will appear in green and iMessages will appear in blue.

First, sign out of iMessage. Go to Settings -> Messages -> Send and Recieve

Click on the blue Apple Id line near the top

Select "Sign Out"

In the Messages settings (Settings->Messages), turn off iMessage.

After turning off iMessage, if you have friends with iPhones, you may get an error when sending a message to their iPhone. Reply to them in Messages using their mobile phone number.

All my Bluetooth devices work fine. Turning off iMessage won't hurt anything and it may fix your problem.

The only solution I have found that works 100% of the time is to turn off Bluetooth on the Apple Watch and leave it off — disconnect the watch from the phone.

You will need to connect Bluetooth back to phone periodically to sync fitness data etc.

VERY FRUSTRATING this has been going on this long and still not fixed by Apple!! I am on all the latest updates for watch and phone.

When I first saw this, I also swiped left and saw the bell symbol muted. I tapped and unmuted it but it had no affect. That is when I tapped and held down the moon icon and saw the selection for "Show Alert". When I tapped that it fixed for that contact. I also doubled checked when I clicked on a message, tapped the contact pic at the top, tapped the "I" icon and checked there. Glad it worked for you, maybe Apple should take a look at that.

Hello all,

I had that problem too. Now I receive push messages again.

For me, it was due to apps that I hadn't updated for a while. These included YouTube, Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Aliexpress, H&M and many more.

I updated about 110 apps and it worked. I received all the passed push-messages also! Maybe it is an app that is causing this problem. So, please check and update your apps.

I hope I could help you. I am using iPhone XS Max - iOS 4.16.
