iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

Same here, purchased a Apple Watch Series 6 and since then notifcation issues. At first I thought it was my phone (11 Pro Max) but when I unpair the watch it seems to work fine again? Just spent the best part of £800 on something that doesn't even integrate with their own product correctly! oh dear.............. anyways got 28 days to return so will wait a few more week to see if any updates fix this other wise will return both watch and phone and back to my trusted S10+ that has given me no issues since its purchase

It may be that you don't understand how notifications work when you have a watch:

iPhone locked/watch locked: notifications sound on the phone

iPhone locked/watch unlocked: notifications sound on the watch

iPhone unlocked/watch unlocked: notifications sound on phone

So, if, when your watch is paired and your phone is locked, you will not hear notifications on the phone. That is working as designed.

Thanks for the reply.

In my case it would be;

iPhone locked/watch locked: notifications sound on the phone - no sound just banner notification on phone

iPhone locked/watch unlocked: notifications sound on the watch - no sound just banner notification on phone

iPhone unlocked/watch unlocked: notifications sound on phone - sound notification and banner on phone only

My Apple Watch and iPhone 11 pro max appear to work as they are supposed to except when I am on Bluetooth then neither device alerts me when I have a text. Also when my MacBook is open I do not get a text alert. I have tried so many different things that have been suggested that I am just hoping the next release fixes the problem and I hope they realize it is tied to Bluetooth in addition to what other problems there are.

I had an epiphany and it worked for me. I went to Notifications in Settings; located Messages on the list of apps that you have notifications set for. Upon locating Messages I saw that the Allow Notifications setting was switched off (I never turned this off manually). After turning it on I was able to hear and see my text messages. Hope this works for you.

with the 14 update i am not receiving text notifications at all (ie: nobanner on lock screen, no ding in the earpiece, no notification on the bluetooth). This is a problem as i use this phone for business and MUST be able to get my notifications at all times. APPLE... PLEASE FIX ASAP .... THIS IS A HARD PASS ON THIS FEATURE FOR ME.

After the iOS 14.1 update I suddenly stopped getting notifications for just ONE person. Because they are a “favorite” I noticed there was a “moon” next to their avatar. I went into their info - from messages - and noticed that “hide alerts” was toggled on.

If you’re only missing notifications from ONE person, this could be the reason. A bug? Or maybe I inadvertently toggled it when looking for a past image or information? Not sure but it’s fixed now!

It is something apple has done i did some checking and it started with the 14.0.0 update and i checked the same to make sure i did not just have one person muted, but i figure the more people that complain to apple as i have done about not get the “ding” of a message while in a call, the quicker they will revert it back. Its not just message /text , its email, messenger... all notification audible tones that are not present while on a call.

i stopped getting text notification sounds suddenly yesterday. The only person I was texting with was my sister-in-law. I saw the half moon next to the conversation and slid the convo from right to left which exposed the mite/unmute/delete choices and noticed she was muted. I unmuted her and the problem was solved but this is a major bug in ios14.1. If I mute one person it should not mute text notifications from everyone. Please fix this ASAP Apple. Hope this helps.

What solved the problem for me is that somehow I muted a text conversation between me and a family member. Honestly I don’t remember doing it. I did notice the half moon symbol next to the text thread. I slid the convo from right to left and unmuted the convo between she and I and my notifications worked again. Why it mutes all notifications from anyone even though it was selected for one contact only can only be explained by it being a bug iOS 14.1. Muting one should mute all. Please fix.

I have XS Max and have not received iMessage notifications while locked since installing iOS 14.1. Once I unlock the phone the notifications go crazy, that's not helpful nor appreciated. I'd really prefer to have the notifications as they occur while locked and not all at once when the phone is unlocked. Please Apple, fix this sooner than later.

I have been having this problem intermittently for months. I have called customer service, it's been escalated to a supervisor who personally speaks to me about it and always says, it's not the phone it's the software, they are aware of it and are trying to fix it. I have the latest software and with every new version I hope it will be fixed and it does not fix it. My son-in-law has a google phone that did a similar thing and when they replaced his phone it no longer did it. I have always had Apple iPhone but I am seriously thinking about something else on my next upgrade!! This is an unacceptable issue to have with a phone like this!!!
