Option for user to turn off notification of clipboard (one app pasted from another app)

Hi, Apple team, my new iPad Pro 2 has just updated to iOS 14, I found you added a new feature that displays “one app pasted from another app”, which is probably the new privacy transparency you are striving for, however this to me seems more annoying than being useful. I am a focused and productive person, when I am working or learning in front of my iPad I like to concentrate on what I am doing instead of frequently disturbed by this notification which has nothing to do with the stuffs I am working on. Can you please give the user an option to turn this clipboard notification off? Thanks.

This is a user to user support forum and Apple does not participate here. If you wish to provide feedback to Apple regarding a change you would like to see, or report a bug, then use the feedback link here, Feedback - iPhone - Apple That is the only place they see feedback from users, not here.

I've directly complained to Apple by phone and in writing, even opening a ticket about it, several times. I was told (true or not, who's to say...) my complaint was forwarded to engineering and they said it's for privacy reasons 🤦🏻‍♀️ and, for now, we have to deal with. Maybe they'll fix it in another update, they said. Uh huh. 🙄

I recommend every single person who gets my response here to write a complaint to Apple https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and if you have the time, call them, too.

Other than the Apple Moderators, who monitor conduct and adherence to the ASC Terms of Use that govern participation within these Support Communities, Apple technical staff do not participate in these user-to-user technical forums. Participants here are all end-users, just like you.

Apple do invite constructive feedback and feature requests via their product feedback pages. Here is the iPad feedback page:

Actually, the point of these boards is for exchanging technical support advice. Apple doesn't read here for suggestions or feedback. I'm glad to see that you have noticed the feedback link. I hope that you will let Apple know how you feel there.

Best of luck.

Depending on the user scenario, the copy/paste alert can last seemingly much longer than 2 seconds as it can prompt multiple copy alerts - creating a continuous cycle of alerts.

For example, if any text has been copied, and you interact with the search/address bar in a browser (let’s say Chrome), the “Chrome pasted from x” alert will continually keep appearing every time you click on the search/address bar - OVERLAYING the search/address bar, so you are forced to wait for the alert to go away. This is a problem because of the position of the search/address bar and the copy alert (both fixed at the top of the screen).

Replicate issue:

Copy some text from an app (non-browser)

“Chrome pasted from x” alert displays for 2 seconds

Open/switch to a browser app

“Chrome pasted from x” alert displays for 2 seconds

Click on the search/address bar

“Chrome pasted from x” alert displays for 2 seconds

Click again on the search/address bar so that the paste option displays (this is hit an miss depending on how you tap the search/address bar before the alert displays)

Paste text in search/address bar

“Chrome pasted from x” alert displays for 2 seconds

I have now seen the SAME text alert multiple times over 8 seconds, just to complete a simple task of wanting to search for text in the search/address bar.

The alert will keep displaying until the text is pasted.

This now changes the expected interaction of the search/address bar.

Do you expect an alert to pop up to every time you interact with the search/address bar? Essentially disabling its access for 2 seconds? I doubt many users would see this as beneficial.

And this is why usability user research that includes many different scenarios is conducted, so that informed decisions about interface changes are made - not just done because someone said it was a good idea.

Thank you for the information, but if that's Apple's excuse, it's patently absurd.

Okay, so SOME apps were silently reading the clipboard. Does this annoying new notification somehow prevent that from happening?

If it does, then why do I never get a notification of that suspicious clipboard activity? And if it doesn’t, then why do I need a notification of something I just copied and pasted MYSELF?

So ultimately, this notification is 100% pointless. It has no logical or functional reason to exist.
