iOS 14 Update and copy/paste doesn’t work

I can’t even begin to explain how poorly the copy function works or rather doesn’t work.

it’s like it’s possessed and wants to do it’s own thing half the time. IOS want to add items to calendar, it doesn’t select anything or selects way too much. Makes me wonder who’s letting these updates go out with poor QC. copy and paste is one of the most often used things and basic functions. Especially with the need to copy zoom passwords. And it should also handle zoom numbers much better

My iPhone 12 Pro Max will not cut, copy or paste in the Messaging App. I can copy an already sent text message but can not cut or select any portion of a text I am currently writing, only the entire message after it was sent. This is very frustrating and a waste of my time. I am on OS 14.3 currently. I have had this problem for months now and I am fed up with it. I just upgraded from an iPhone 7 to an iPhone 12 Pro Max and the problem still exists. Will apple ever fix it? All the threads I have looked at seem to blame other third party apps but this is an Apple app and it has been happen since OS 14 came out.

I rebooted twice and I still cannot cut (select) in a text message. I can press and move the cursor in the text and it just moves the cursor and does not bring up the blue selection option. It does it in this web page also. I am using safari. It’s the Apple apps that do not let me select anything. Help please!

Hi, I have been having this problem of select/copy/paste since I updated software to iOS 14 when it first was available. I use this feature mainly in NOTES. Extremely annoying. When I try to select the area I want to copy , the cursor acts like a trackpad and after several tries I can get the select / paste feature. Sometimes all I can do is select all than NOTES freezes and I have to do a soft “boot”. Please fix this. I use both iPad and iPhone 12 Pro....problems exist on both.

My "full keyboard access" was already turned off. I still have the issue and it really dislike having to retype things when I could easily cut and paste it. Does Apple seem to care or know about this issue?

I am using an iPhone 7 iOS 14.3 and still does not even give you an option to copy link address even videos will not do links. Is this censorship or just a screwed iOS a £20 phone has more functionality than an apple phone.

Thanks for the accurate advice, as well as the time to assist users with a video tutorial on YouTube. As for Apple, this doesn’t explain Why these capabilities are no longer on the keyboard (Conspiracy Theorists: unless it’s only because their proprietary “Magic Keyboard” is the only solution...albeit a hefty solution). Also, any idea on When Apple Devs plan to reinstate this Must-Have Feature.

An additional means by which to accomplish this same result, is by pressing the “.?123”, numbers & symbols button located lower-left of the keyboard, where one will find “Undo” & “Redo” also at the lower-left of the screen. This, however, does not Replace the Need to Have these important functions at one’s fingertips, literally.

Nothing anyone says or suggests allows the ability to cut and paste text from a text message or in many cased apple apps. I have no idea when apple will restore this feature for the long and dedicated apple users to have access to again. To tell you the truth, If I didn't spend so much money on my Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, I would give up on apple and go to a Samsung phone. It is that frustrating and unacceptable. Apple, please restore the cut and past functions in the apple apps.

I did the " Reset all settings" and " Reset Network Settings" . It didn't work. In fact not only was it a pain to spend a long time getting my settings back the way I like them, it made it worse so my keyboard locks up when I try to cut and past.

APPLE, when are you going to fix it without me messing up my phone to see if it works? I tried it and now I am worse off than before. Samsung seems like a great idea to me right now. I have been a loyal customer with apple since iPhone 3S and I seem to get the impression they don't care about the little guy. Please fix it!

It is not a bug, it is how Apple is crippling the software; their standard technique. If you look at past changes for few years you will realise that crippling software by Apple is very common. Unfortunately only dumb people think that crippling and destroying functionalities is a way to draw the attention, and as we already know most of Apple employers are like that.

One year later almost, I just my first iPhone at the end of March 2021 - iPhone 12 Pro. I expected to go thru some issues coming to apple from Samsung Android - but the problems I’m running into are like basic basic stuff like this ridiculous copy paste issue. was trying to copy text in tinder profiles, never once had a problem with a copy paste after 10 years of Samsung. Many users told you about this problem a year ago and it’s happen again?

Also, what’s up with not being able to minimize my YouTube screen to a corner of the screen - so can still watch n hear video AND still use everything else on the phone?

I was so excited to finally get an iPhone a but I didn’t expect to still be constantly battling it a week and a half after buying it.

Strongly considering Returning the iPhone 12 Pro before this 14 day window goes buy. What a let down so far- the upside of better photos n syncing with MacBook totally negated by the constant issues via simple tasks. I have a list but I don’t wanna have to go thru each thing.

the fact that I’m already in an apple user support center under a username I had to make is just absurd. Copy paste, minimizing apps keeping them open still while using other apps (YouTube), and not being able to just click into a word to change a letter with a tap -

IPhone requires so much extra tapping, holding, 3 fingers 2 fingers - you feel like the phone is making you sexually pleasure it or something in order to edit text.

Please help I want to enjoy the iPhone I just bought instead of debating whether or not I wanna deal with constant updates n bugs - seems to be the norm here. Please just fix:

1. Copy n pasting text within apps (I experienced this surging tinder profiles)
2. allow me to keep YouTube open n playing while only taking up a quarter of the screen so I can use the phone while vids play. Is this like a new concept to apple? Couldn’t be
3. without a constant reliable “back or go back button” is the only option to close the app and re-open it?
4. let us upload Spotify playlists free into apple music or just cut Apple Music so I can upload Spotify stuff in whatever apps it’s useful instead of only displaying useless Apple Music. When u closed iTunes shoulda just dropped that Battle and make the phone easier to use. ****

I got an email as I followed this thread, and I absolutely have to say you got me to really LOL with the sexual pleasure comment, hope your issues get sorted or you return the phone. Apple are never on point about any faults, they seem to feel they can charge us the most exorbitant price for their goods, then give worse back up service than a flipping plumber (pun intended)

Case in point, however many years ago now I don’t even know, Apple did an update & something in that made it impossible to scale photos for wallpaper, at the time there was a lot of fuss, Apple did what they do best, ignored it, there’s even apps, or were still least, that would fix the photos then you could use them. Utterly stupid and it’s still going on, cannot scale a darn thing
