iOS 14 / Watch OS 7 Fitness and Health Apps issues

So, I have a couple of big issues with Apple Watch (Watch OS 7) and iPhone (iOS 14) and the Fitness and Health Apps:

  1. Workouts that I record on watch don’t transfer to iPhone Health App anymore. The rings in Fitness App on iPhone do reflect the workout, but the workouts themselves don’t show up anymore. Worked perfectly in iOS 13, function is dead since update to iOS 14.
  2. Fitness App on iPhone does not correctly sync to Health App on iPhone anymore in iOS 14. Example, steps at the end of the day in Healt App on iPhone are 30 to 50% below what Fitness App on same iPhone shows (Fitness App on iPhone though is in line with Fitness App on Apple Watch).
  3. Fitness App on iPhone shows wrong information. Example, I have Stand goal now at 10 of 12 hours which Fitness App on iPhone Shows correctly, however only 7 of the turquoise bars are highlighted.
  4. In iOS 13, resting energy was estimated and recorded in Health even if Apple watch was not worn, eg at night. In iOS 14, Health records resting energy only when watch is worn, which results in a wrong overall number for the day (this causes other apps like LoseIt to work incorrectly).

Anybody else with similar issues?

Problem number 1 and 3 have been happening for me as well. Support said they're looking into it. For me, it started with my walking/running path location not showing up with my workout in my fitness app and then evolved into workouts no longer syncing with my phone at all. Pairing and repairing didn't help at *all* and made the issue worse.

I ended up backing up and restoring my phone and watch and while it took a good long time to get everything set, it is now syncing data properly between my devices. So far, it seems workouts are saving properly with map and heart rate data. The info in health matches what’s in the fitness app.

However, it looks like the GPS routes for all my past runs are gone. There’s a map with a starting point, but nothing else. From what I can tell, all the backup data has finished syncing but losing all that data is a pretty huge bummer. Makes me feel a lot less confident about using these things going forward.

Just in case anyone hasn't already, it would be super useful to Apple if developers experiencing these issues can capture some debugging logs by following the instructions here:

https://download.developer.apple.com/iOS/iOS_Logs/HealthKit_Logging_Instructions.pdf

https://download.developer.apple.com/iOS/watchOS_Logs/HealthKit_Logging_Instructions__Watch.pdf

and attaching the resulting logs to a bug report here : https://feedbackassistant.apple.com

So this appears to be the official solution for now:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211865

I did the entire reset of both my iPhone and Apple Watch as detailed above. As time consuming and inconvenient as it is, it appears to have corrected all of the issues I had with the flow of health data from my watch to my health app and onward to other apps such as LoseIt and AutoSleep.

I found this (https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT211865) detailed step-by-step process provided by Apple to solve the "sync-problem", as I would refer to it, as my watch does everything ok, but Activity/Fitness and AutoSleep data is being corrupted on the iPhone 14.1 after the sync.

I followed the process to the letter and now everything is working fine after 24hrs testing, my exercises and sleep are correct recorded.

Still, Apple needs to fix the bug, we should not be required to reset and restore to bypass bugs like this.

One more thing, other people who has tried the process has complained about loss of historical data, I did not loose anything, but be aware that the Fitness app is slowly syncing data from your iCloud backup for hours, even after everything on the iPhone and Watch looks done and settled, but check out the tiny message at the bottom of the Fitness screen which says something like "Loading data from iCloud...."

Glad I’m not alone, here are some further issues and it’s all related to Fitness and Health not syncing correctly on the same iPhone (yes, that is on the same device):

  • iPhone Fitness yesterday 12 stand hours, iPhone Health shows only ten. Number in Health on iPhone is consistently below number in Fitness on iPhone since iOS 14 upgrade.
  • Yesterday, one of my two(!) workouts actually made it from the Watch to Fitness on the iPhone, however the heart rate chart does not show because of insufficient data points during the workout. That can’t be correct, as the Health App on iPhone during the same timeframe shows a consistent reading.

Minor issue: Exercise type “Paddling” does not record the track on the map, like eg an outdoor run does. Paddling is an outdoor sport (as in Kayaking or Canoeing) and therefore a track should be recorded. This is probably mixed up with exercise type “Rowing” which if performed on an indoor rowing machine does not need a track recording.

not happy. I upgraded phone 3 days ago new iOS 14 and fitness app and Attain health app not syncing.

now 1 years of data has gone. My weeks fitness goals that were met gone which costs me money with my Attain health app.

I have noticed that while fitness app tracks distance correctly it seems to stop tracking heart rate after about 10 minute and also no map data.

When I went into try some of the fixes I found this issue.

in Activity App under Walking and Running Distance then go to Data sources and access when I go to the sources my Apple Watch it starts out showing the current date and steps and then goes back to steps from 2019.... Changes right before my eyes.

Other issue also but steps and active calories seems to be worst.

I’m having issues with #1 & 4 but my issues with resting energy is a little different. I pretty much wear the watch all day, including while sleeping. Resting energy dropped from about 2600-2900 cal/day on average to 600-1000 cal/day following the update to OS 7. It’s causing all kinds of problem with LoseIt.

Also none of my sleep tracking apps work anymore.

I am having the same issues above which all started after updating to iOS 14. My watch is tracking steps correctly and shows in fitness app but health app is completely wrong. I have the Fitbit app also installed and the seems to be functioning correctly using the inbuilt iPhone motion sensors.

autosleep app no longer works and says the watch was not on my wrist for most of the night.

I have tried multiple fixes such as re-pairing watch but nothing works. Glad at least that not only person experiencing this

Hi! Thanks for sharing. I'm also having major issues with my Series 5 following the watch OS 7 update including:

-workouts not syncing from watch to fitness app; no details in the Health app either

-when manually entering workout data into the Health App the calories entered aren't being counted against daily goal.

-calories not being counted. On one day it reached 577 and just stopped counting no matter my movement or activity.

-calories that are being counted is wildly inaccurate! I workout 3 x a day somedays and these numbers i'm seeing are no where near normal.

-No heart rate data found in any of the work out information

-ECG is completely not functioning.

I've tried unpairing and repairing more times than ever before, factory reset the watch and spent an hour on the phone with support without resolution. This has been extremely annoying, frustrating and time consuming.

Apple needs to fix this.
