iPhone volume low on calls
After updating my XR to iOS 14 the phone call volume is really low also with in-call volume set to max. Is anybody else having this issue?
Does anybody know, how to solve it without factory reset?

Have you tried taking a new toothbrush and some baby wipes and cleaning the ear speaker? My son was playing with my wife’s phone the other day with dirty hands as usual and she just updated her phone so I thought it was the update, and maybe to some degree it was making the speaker more sensitive to blockage than before the update, but I spent an hour or two researching and found a video that suggested cleaning the speaker. I did so, with a lot of debris caked in there from the last 6months of her giving the phone to our son and, presto! Phone is fixed. If you have kids or grandkids and they get their hands on your phone, could be due to that.

I just took off my screen cover, it fixed the problem, there's no hole in cover for speaker.
Ok, I have to admit, at first sight it did look clean and I didn’t believe this would solve the problem, but I had to try it. after cleaning it with a dry Q-tip it worked. While I was dialing into my voicemail box, I could hear the volume was increasing as I wiped.
thanks a lot:)
Oh wow, how basic but it worked. I didn’t even realize there was a little speaker that had holes where the ear phone is. I scraped it and wiped it and I can hear again. I’ve been trying everything I read here! Thanks
Hi, do you happen to have a screen cover or screen protector on your phone? It could be blocking the sound of the receiver speaker.
I solved this issue on 2 iPhone 12 by turning off the Attention Aware Features under Settings>Face ID & Attention.
I found my screen protector was covering camera and speaker.
Problem solved.
You must adjust the volume with the volume buttons while you are on an active call. If you are not on a call the volume buttons only adjust the ringer volume. If that isn’t the problem either there is dirt in the speakers on your phone, or your 5 year old phone is broken.
BTW, you have posted to a user-to-user forum. Idle threats are useless; no one here cares what you buy.
This issue was resolved when I contacted Apple and gave my phone’s serial number upon request. So far, so good.
only way to solve most of ios problems is to backup & then restore through itunes
Hi,
the issue continues also after 14.0.1 update. Of course I tried restart, with no effect.
I hope you will solve the issue soon. With this volume, the phone is almost unusable.
Best regards!
Marek
Marek,
We appreciate that information. If you've restored your iPhone then set it up as a new device and the issue continues, we continue to recommend to reach back out to Apple Support and supply this information for next steps. Here is the link again: Contact Apple Support
Cheers.
Same here iPhone XS Max, updated to iOS 14.0.1 and my in call volume is reduced by at least 50%. It’s fine on speaker and Bluetooth car kit. Volume is turned fully up but I’m struggling to hear the other caller when they’re speaking.
I’m also having this issue. I tried resetting the settings only without any luck. Also tried all the other stuff like disable noise cancellation, disable Bluetooth restarting the phone etc. I’m 100% sure this was caused by the update to IOS 14.x.
@apple please fix this issue! Or at least in meantime provide a workaround.
Im having the same problem with my iPhone X. Only call volume on the phone- no where else. I can’t hear ans I have to use AirPods always or the speaker. I think @apple forgot that it’s a PHONE. It’s been going on for months now and I also think it has to do with the update.
I can’t believe there are so many people with this problem and apple hasn’t done anything about it yet and it wasn’t fixed in the update.
