iPhone volume low on calls

After updating my XR to iOS 14 the phone call volume is really low also with in-call volume set to max. Is anybody else having this issue?

Does anybody know, how to solve it without factory reset?

Have you tried taking a new toothbrush and some baby wipes and cleaning the ear speaker? My son was playing with my wife’s phone the other day with dirty hands as usual and she just updated her phone so I thought it was the update, and maybe to some degree it was making the speaker more sensitive to blockage than before the update, but I spent an hour or two researching and found a video that suggested cleaning the speaker. I did so, with a lot of debris caked in there from the last 6months of her giving the phone to our son and, presto! Phone is fixed. If you have kids or grandkids and they get their hands on your phone, could be due to that.

Hey there, marek283.

We understand that after you updated to iOS 14.0, the call volume is low, even after ensuring the volume was turned all the way up.

iOS 14.0.1 was released recently, so you'll want to back up your device and make sure its fully updated: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch A restart may also help: Restart your iPhone

If the issue continues or if we have misunderstood the situation, please answer the following questions to help us better understand what is going on:

  1. Do you notice the low volume when using only the receiver or does it also happen with speaker mode or headphones (wired or Bluetooth)?
  2. Does this happen in multiple locations or a specific location?
  3. Is this happening when you speak with multiple contacts?

Let us know if that helps. Take care!

Marek,

Thanks for trying those steps for us. Please also follow the steps in the following article to see if that helps, if you haven't already: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
