After updating my XR to iOS 14 the phone call volume is really low also with in-call volume set to max. Is anybody else having this issue?
Does anybody know, how to solve it without factory reset?

Have you tried taking a new toothbrush and some baby wipes and cleaning the ear speaker? My son was playing with my wife’s phone the other day with dirty hands as usual and she just updated her phone so I thought it was the update, and maybe to some degree it was making the speaker more sensitive to blockage than before the update, but I spent an hour or two researching and found a video that suggested cleaning the speaker. I did so, with a lot of debris caked in there from the last 6months of her giving the phone to our son and, presto! Phone is fixed. If you have kids or grandkids and they get their hands on your phone, could be due to that.
Apple may want to share the solution with its employees.
The problem of low in call volune has worsened so much so that I have to put on the speaker to hear the other side . Whats going on?

I have the same issue with iPhone 12 pro max with ios 14.3 the latest version...

Phone call volume at ear is very low.
Speaker volume is good.
I have tried all listed remedies and troubleshooting.
Problem remains.

Yes after updating iOS 14, my phone call getting volume is low.
Phone is pretty much wasted. I can’t use speaker always for phone calls, Apple please fix this issue
This fixed the issue for me as well iPhone XR IOS 14.4.2
Same here on iPhone 7 Plus.
Tried cleaning and everything, didn’t make any difference.
Wife’s iPhone 6 is loud and clear running an earlier iOS.
I have an XR on 14.5 with 256. I use T-Mobile and am experiencing this issue.
Good luck I've spent hrs on the phone this week with Apple and my carrier which is AT&T no fix no answers. It's beyond frustrating
Me too my iphone 7 is the same i cant really hear when on phonecall but on speaker fine i was going to take it in to apple shop
