WhatsApp Calling not working after iOS14 Update

After update to iOS 14, I have run into 2 big issues:

  1. WhatsApp Calling feature does not work, normal messaging works but the Video / Audio Calling is not working. It keeps asking me to switch from 4G to WIFI but none of them work. Everything was working fine before the update. I have re-installed WhatsApp, re-installed iTunes but still nothing works
  2. Unable to take backup on my laptop after the update. It just hangs and does nothing.. I have left for 5-6 hrs but still does not do a full backup on laptop. Previously it took 20 min at max.

Has anyone faced this issue? I can't roll back to the last saved backup on laptop as I deleted it by mistake. I dont want to pay Apple hence dont use iCloud for backup

Yes I’m also having problems with WhatsApp calling on my device with iOS 14. I have gigabit fiber optic at home and 2 Wi-Fi access points hardwired into a gigabit Ethernet network. However, if I try to make a WhatsApp call I see WhatsApp says the Wifi connection is “poor” and it is switching to cellular for better signal. This causes to call quality to plummet to the point of being unusable. If I immediately call back using an iPhone on iOS 13 the call goes through with no problems. Speed tests take during call attempts show 500-950 Mbps with a 2-3ms ping. So the problem is not the network; it’s the iPhone running iOS 14.

I’ve been running into this same issue and have tried every proposed solution I could find. Does your apple device have any installed profiles? I found that mine is managed by my company and has a profile that allows them to manage the device. I think it’s an issue that affects devices running the latest version of iOS, and it seems the only solution would be for WA to release an update to work with managed devices with profiles. It’s the only explanation I have been able to find, but basically, I am still have the issues :(

Same issue here, tried all the options - Airplane mode, Wifi switch On and Off, Cellular On and Off, Local Network is ON- nothing worked I took a backup of phone and then did a reinstall of IOS14 and then Whatsapp worked for couple of hours and then again same issue - Audio and Video calls are not working. Have a 300 Mbps line at home and also Cellular speed is 15-20 Mbps.

Tried reinstalling IOS14 - Whatsapp worked for couple of hours and again same issue. Checked with my brothers Iphone on IOS13 - no issue - calls works smoothly.

This is compatibility issue between whatsapp and IOS.

Reached out to Whatsapp but seems it is going to call center team - the guy is telling me to check Wifi settings and my network which actually is not the problem.

I did check that. It is already on. I uninstalled and installed WhatsApp, restarted my phone, tried VPN, changed WIFI Network. Nothing helped.

I can confirm that it is due to the OS update because I just talked to my friend, got an notification for 14.0.1 update, updated the OS; then called my friend and it didn't work.

Now I am just hoping that a new OS update or Whatsapp update should fix it.

I had the same issue with WhatsApp. None of the below solutions worked for me. What did work, though, was turning my firewall setting down to low (in the router's settings). Immediately I was able to make calls again. It seems that when the firewall is set to medium/high, it blocks WhatsApp calls.

How to set the firewall settings to low:

1) Open the router's configuration page (usually this is http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/)

2) Enter the username and password (usually username is Admin and Password is Password, yours might differ)

3) Go to the Firewall Protection Menu (will vary from router to router, but isn't difficult to find)

4) Either turn firewall off or set it to low (I recommend low)

PS

Do not delete and re-install your WhatsApp without taking a backup. You will lose all unsaved data.
