WhatsApp Calling not working after iOS14 Update

After update to iOS 14, I have run into 2 big issues:

  1. WhatsApp Calling feature does not work, normal messaging works but the Video / Audio Calling is not working. It keeps asking me to switch from 4G to WIFI but none of them work. Everything was working fine before the update. I have re-installed WhatsApp, re-installed iTunes but still nothing works
  2. Unable to take backup on my laptop after the update. It just hangs and does nothing.. I have left for 5-6 hrs but still does not do a full backup on laptop. Previously it took 20 min at max.

Has anyone faced this issue? I can't roll back to the last saved backup on laptop as I deleted it by mistake. I dont want to pay Apple hence dont use iCloud for backup

Told by WhatsApp support that the only way to resolve was to restore phone. After restore nothing had changed. WhatsApp still did not appear in ‘Privacy’ ‘Local Network’. But I made a call and the pop up box appeared.....’do you grant permission for WhatsApp to access your local network?’ When I agreed, it now appears in ‘Privacy’ ‘Local Network’ and I can now make calls perfectly........so problem resolved.

note: follow Apple’s instructions carefully when doing restore.

Same issue here, tried all the options - Airplane mode, Wifi switch On and Off, Cellular On and Off, Local Network is ON- nothing worked I took a backup of phone and then did a reinstall of IOS14 and then Whatsapp worked for couple of hours and then again same issue - Audio and Video calls are not working. Have a 300 Mbps line at home and also Cellular speed is 15-20 Mbps.

Tried reinstalling IOS14 - Whatsapp worked for couple of hours and again same issue. Checked with my brothers Iphone on IOS13 - no issue - calls works smoothly.

This is compatibility issue between whatsapp and IOS.

Reached out to Whatsapp but seems it is going to call center team - the guy is telling me to check Wifi settings and my network which actually is not the problem.

I did check that. It is already on. I uninstalled and installed WhatsApp, restarted my phone, tried VPN, changed WIFI Network. Nothing helped.

I can confirm that it is due to the OS update because I just talked to my friend, got an notification for 14.0.1 update, updated the OS; then called my friend and it didn't work.

Now I am just hoping that a new OS update or Whatsapp update should fix it.

I too had the same problem. Basically followed instructions from tahirnazir and this worked😀

Background: when I initially upgraded to latest version 14.1. A message popped up at the end asking WhatsApp wants access to ...’local network...’ I can’t remember the exact wording. I thought it was dodgy and declined access.

This is when I started having problems with audio/video call feature on WhatsApp. So either allow WhatsApp access when upgrading or go into settings > WhatsApp > select local network to update. The problem has been resolved for me and all WhatsApp features are working as before.
