Is anyone currently experiencing lag when typing within iMessage? It seems to happen every time I start typing a new message. Only occurs with the first ~3 letters and, once the lag catches up and those letters are typed, it returns to normal. I’m not sure if this is specific to me or possibly something associated with the new iOS 14 update.

I spoke to an apple tech today. I explained to him about the issue with my Iphone 8 and the typing lag is still there on my Iphone 12. He told me it is a bug that transferred over when I transferred over my data from one phone to the next.
The FIX is to upload photos/contacts/messages to Icloud, do a factory reset, setup as a new phone and then download photos/contacts from iCloud, re download apps. Unfortunately that is the only solution they have found that works. Hope this helps!

Try to reset keyboard dictionary: settings > general > reset. I just did this and it fixed mine
Update to IOS 14.2 fixed the problem for me on iPhone and iPad

Resetting the keyboard dictionary which “Longman619” suggested solved the message lag problem for me. Thanks!
I have been switching between the Spanish and English keyboards and was getting the lag when texting in English without realizing that my keyboard was set to Spanish.
The only way to temporarily fix it is to go to general then reset and reset keyboard dictionary but as I have discovered after a bit of time the lag issue comes back
I changed the font size to a larger size and that seems to work for now. I also turned off the swipe to text. I am not sure which of the two were the solution m, but the lag has not continued.
i turned off all keyboard features mostly and no lag, but nothing else either, no emoji, no auto correct, it sucks but getting use to it. old school texting now but no lagg
I turned off most of the iMessage apps except the ones I actually use and that seems to help.
But it is annoying that it was working fine until the most recent update.
Not sure if it’s related...I was having the same issue and it seemed to be related to iCloud storage. I turned off what I needed to and it seemed to “speed up.”
Try to reset keyboard dictionary: settings > general > reset. I just did this and will see if it helps.
I tried the reset in settings under general > reset> keyboard I probably list all of my saved words and I’ll gave trouble typing again but we’ll see if it fixes the lag in iMessage. 🤷♀️
