iMessage Typing Lag

Just Piping in & confirming i have same experiences with keybd typing lag... and then some! I think they’re possibly all related, hence sharing all this poop here.

Yes, 3seconds to 15secs delays. Has gotten progressively worse over the past 2 months. More Severe now. But is at random, sometimes better & ok for short periods & sometimes per keybd dictionary resets or rebooting this iphone 8. Or toggling (on/off): the iMessage or sms/mms options, or the text mssg features per spelling dictionary or whatever predictive options too.

Another dysfunction that started at random but is definitely occurring more than past weeks has been disappearing texts after typing & sending; it goes, then it vanishes without evidence of existing.

Another dysfunction that also started same times is it says “not delivered” but it did deliver (as verbally confirmed by recipients; sometimes multiple times because I resent multiple times!).

i have backed up everything on cloud & reset the iPhone to clear settings & content but not all the way to factory settings as the one person described from apple customer service solution.

One temporary productivity practice with this dysfunction has been:

type up mssg in email or reminders app, cut & paste it into the messaging. Seems to get it all in there fast enough to avoid the lag (once i get the cursor enabled!).

Another alt solution has been to dictate; it works with a bit of lag still but gets a lot of texting in although invariably editing it takes too long as I experience the same keybd lag.

So it seemed like this dysfunction was / is related to processing time durations.

So i thought it’s my phone & too much old texts saved. So i did selectively regrettably delete assorted longer text threads or photos attached with no improvement. I do have plenty of HD memory 50% still so I don’t think that is the issue, so it’s disappointing that i had deleted /sacrificed much stuff to attempt resolving this chronic issue. Seems like ultimately going to have to delete all old stuff maybe? Even with a new iphone? Maybe no use iphones in future. Or save all photos to HD get off cloud.

Any chance at all if this is related to screen sensitivities? I have noticed past year more typos typing on my now 2yr old iphone8 screen. As if my fingers getting fatter? (Probably different issue though!).

I’d think probably not (screen sensitivity issue) if new iphone 12 folks are having this keyboard typing lag issue still.

iPhone 11 Pro 512GB

Software version 14.0.1

381GB HD space available

Minimal apps installed, no new apps installed recently

Symptoms: When starting to type a message, the first 2-4 letters appear, everything freezes for 2-3 seconds, then text resumes displaying. If I type "blind" while it's locked up, that typing will appear after 2-3 seconds once it unfreezes. This occurs almost every time I switch to a new message. I've backed up / wiped my phone / reinstalled - same issue. It occurs in the Messages app w/ iMessage (blue) and SMS (green) messages. There's no noticeable lag on other apps so far. Battery health is great - it's the newest iPhone and it's less than a year old.

Please help because this is a constant source of irritation. You guys are great, thanks in advance.

Wonder if it is related to the “swipe to text” functionality. When I do that as opposed to “regular” texting, there seems to be no delay. Maybe a push to get us to use that way instead??? Just a guess on my part.

I’m having the same issue since updating to iOS 14 on an Xs Max. I’ve gotten in the habit to just start typing and spellcheck myself before sending. It is frustrating though because I worry that it won’t recognize a letter then I spend unnecessary time fixing rather than sending a message normally.

100% iOS issue. Brand new iPhone 12 Pro 512gb giving me the same issues as my 1.5 year old XS 512gb. Shocking

FIX THE I PHONE KEYBOARD LAG ISSUE ASSOCIATED WITH 14.1-14.2 updates!!!

Resetting the keyboard dictionary works for a short period of time; it’s not a complete fix. There’s a huge issue here and Apple needs to fix this.

Exactly this is a software bug in IOS 14 as this never happened on previous versions it needs apple to pull its finger out and address the problem !!!

Same here. Experiencing iMessage typing lagging about 1/3 of the times I start a new text.

I’ve also seen some other odd iMessage screen delays like incorrect ordering of text messages or pasts texts showing up as if I am sending them again. I’ve only seen these glitches in conversations that contain voice memos.

i’ve been having this problem too once i updated to ios14

i was concerned something was wrong with my phone, but now i’m seeing i’m not alone.

i really hope this gets fixed with a new update

Apple not going to be forced into upgrading to yet another phone with your iOS 14 software games. Please update with another software release to fix the lagging on multiple applications especially iMessage!!!

It’s not just you. I’m actually here because of this iMessage lag. It’s not breaking my phone nor my will to text, but sure is annoying and only showed itself after latest iOS update.

Apple, just fix this simple issue please?

That doesn't make any sense. I just bought an SE and this problem still persists. This may have been prevalent in the past but this is not a justification for this new bug. It exists on new phones, and it is simply a bug that really needs to be addressed by apple.
