Geotag on photos not working since iOS 14 upgrade.

Ever since I upgraded to iOS 14, my iPhone does not show the geotag location at the top of each picture. Only the date and time it was taken. My camera settings are correct and my location settings are accurate, but it won’t show the location on the photos. The photos I have that were taken before installing iOS 14 show the location and geotag still. But any picture taken since the upgrade does not show the location.

I talked with Apple Support and this issue is now fixed on my IPhone 11 Pro, OS 14.01

You have to go into Privacy again, and then toggle the Location off and then back on. Then the camera icon will now appear under Privacy, so then click on Camera, then select allow location while using device. That fixed it. Before the Camera icon wasn't appearing under Privacy. So, toggling location off and then on again somehow reset it.

It does not seem to be a problem of the geo tagging. The iPhone is tagging the photos correctly with GPS or it would not be able to show the location map below the photos , when we view them enlarged and look in the details section below the enlarged photo. why seems to be missing is the name of the location in the title. The names of the location are retrieved from Apple's servers and the problem seems to be with these servers. It is suspicious, that only the location names for new photos are missing, that have not been taken at home. Photos can show the location names of previously scanned photos, where it already has looked up the locations one time ago, and it can show the Home location. Only the names of the new places are missing, where the access to Apple's servers is needed.

I’m in the UK as well and noticed this when I downloaded iOS 14 and it stayed the same with iOS 14.0.1. My phone will tag home but nowhere else. A couple of times it’s tagged my workplace but the tag disappeared pretty quickly after.

I talked to Apple last week, they put me through to an engineer who said they have had reports of the issue and advised to pay attention to upcoming updates.

I was excited when 14.1 came but alas, still waiting for the photo tag issue to be resolved. 😔

I have just updated to iOS 14.2. My location geotags have appeared but I agree with others that for the missing locations which have been restored, they are not as precise eg. in 2019 Houghton Hall in Norfolk (UK) appears as Houghton whereas from last week it appears simply as Norfolk. Hopefully new geotags going forwards will be as detailed as they used to be. Not tested yet!!!

I called Apple support, took quite a while to get an answer but in the end I was told Apple had changed this feature and that it’s not a bug......... he indicated that if enough people complain about it Apple may change it back..... so spread the word...... It was such a useful and simple feature, I don’t understand why anyone would think it had to be removed/changed!!

I sent a DM via twitter to @AppleSupport with my case number (ref number assigned to me after speaking with Apple in Ireland).

Their reply confirmed that they had received numerous unhappy enquiries on this issue & that it was 'under review'...mmmm.

The only thing we can do is to bombard apple with DM's via twitter, fill in feedback forms weekly, put tweets in the public domain...I don't know if apple monitor this website but if they do & see the level of annoyance, then maybe they'll take note & action.

The 14.2 update fixed geo locations for new photo taken after installing it and most of the photo taken before installing it. However, I still have a lot of old photos taken before 14.2 showing either wrong location (hundreds of km away) or just showing country. I updated to 14.3, it stopped showing location of new photos again so I had to downgrade to 14.2 and wait for future update to resolve it. Frustrated
