Geotag on photos not working since iOS 14 upgrade.

Some of my older pictures-before 2015 also didn’t show geotags. But when I selected an older pic that didn’t show the geotag, if I clicked on show in maps and show nearby photos, the geotags showed up for all the pics in that area. Clumsy but better than nothing.

Ironically this string just updated with the Nov 25 reply about 14.02. I did want to mention my iPad Pro has never stopped providing the location at the top of all pictures in my photo stream/iCloud with the pictures I have taken with my phone. But my iPhone 11 Pro Max has not (today is Nov 25) even though I’ve updated to 14.02.

Glad to know Apple and all of the community is on this as the location has often helped me “prove” some fact that was necessary to accomplish business.

My problem is that every time they update, even with I.O.S 14.2, I take a new photo and the location above the photo says “home” even though I’m not home at all, rather I’m on my college campus. It’s really annoying.

it still doesn’t work for me, the locations on the previous photos are still incorrect for me, I’m at my house now so even if it starts working it’s only because I was home. Im still in touch with Apple about the situation. You did say the locations corrected themselves right?

This photo was taken at a location that is NOT where I live, rather it is my college campus, where I am currently dorming. I already have a significant location for my actual house, which is where I am now.

The issue persists

After updating to 14.2 some photos were tagged but less precise( I can compare photos on iPhone with ios 14.2 vs Ipad still in ios 13)

It partially worked until yesterday. Tried turning it off for 5 minutes, nothing

The issue...must have fixed itself on its own? I’m getting correct geotags which is awesome, but the problem is that some of the photos I’ve taken still say “home” on it, does anyone know how to revert them back to what they should be? I’m thinking of duplicating them and then deleting the duplicates but idk, I feel like there should be a simpler way.

I felt regretted to get iPhone12:( It such a costly phone !!!!! and never expected such an issue ???!!!!!

I have this issue just in these days, all the photos I took before Dec. 3 show geotag normally, however after that the photos just show a map below it. I am not sure if it related with the iOS 14 cause I have updated it last month, but issues just happened recently.

you still can use the phone but I believe operating the phone will drain some resources from background update/synchronisation. Thus, put your phone standby if you don’t really need to use it.

Cellular data may not as stable as any home/office network so using homewifi would be the best choice.

I tried connecting lighting cable to laptop USB port didn’t help to speed up the process.

Direct power from wall outlet to adapter + cable helped.

Yes, my device was connected to power and remained locked for over 24hrs. The entire library has been curated, all photos have locations added - but the problem is many photos just got either wrong location or the location is too generic (country, instead of city or county where they were taken)

I just got my new iphone 11 from 5s and yes all the places are gone. I use photos most on my phone and the one feature I liked best is gone. If it wasn't for the space m 5s only had 16 gb i would not have bought a new phone. Disappointing. When I called apple the tech support said 11 just doesn't "offer" it anymore. Did not say many other users had same issue and disappointment.

Folks on her said the downgraded to a previous upgrade. How do you do that once it automatically installs the upgrade? I am lo tech.

Same problems! Geotagging is inconsistently accurate. Once it just named my country and often names the nearest big town. Today it tagged half my photos with titles and the rest are just reading above the picture « Today ». Apple sort this out. You claim so much for your expensive phones but this aspect is not sorted at the moment.

So I now have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the issue isn’t AS bad but frequently some photos that are not geotagged take DAYS to get a geotag. It’s annoying AF and Apple really needs to address this issue with some sort of urgency!

Yup. I was referring to iPadOS 12😂 that was a typo. I was using my iPhone 7 Plus that time and I skipped both iOS 11 and iOS 12 lol

anyway iOS 13.3 was the best on my current 11 Pro Max and I’ll wait for a better iOS and never update it again. I’m tired of all its bs. Plus I actually won’t use almost any of its new functions lol I just feel like all these updates are just making my iPhone more and more like a piece of crap

P.S. my iPhone 6s Plus is still running iOS 10 super smoothly and all apps seem fine still.
