Apple TV 4K: No Dolby Atmos on Netflix, Only At iTunes Movies

I'm using a Apple TV 4K for some time connected to an Dolby Atmos AV receiver. Netflix always showed and worked with Atmos, but recently it only outputs PCM 2.0. The strange is that iTunes Movies plays Atmos with no problem. Seems to be something with Netflix app. I tried to reinstall the app, update apple TV but nothing works. I checked the Netflix quality configuration and is at maximum on my ultra HD plan. Any ideas?

I have exactly the same issue. I can add that the issue started after the update of the Apple Tv 4k to iOS 14.0 few days ago. It seems that the streaming of any multichannel video on Netflix app comes out in PCM 2.0, not just the Atmos ones. Streaming from iTunes Movies or Amazon Prime App is fine, I get Atmos or 5.1 as it would be. Also, with the same Netflix account streaming on an Android TV box linked to the same home theatre of the Apple TV (just different HDMI) I get no issue at all. All fine. Also on my Panasonic TV the naive Netflix app gets the Atmos signal right. It seems that this issue is related to an incompatibility between the new OS of the Apple TV and the Netflix app. Today I tried to de-install and re-install the Netflix app. Now, when accessing a series on the Netflix App I do not get anymore the flag stating the availability of the Atmos sound (just Dolby Vision). Somehow the App is fooled to think it is on a platform not supporting multichannel streaming. Called the Netflix assistance but they had not heard about the issue so far (but the new iOS has been released very recently). They do know however of other issues between the Netflix app and the new iOS. They might look into this if they will get several similar calls.

I had to uninstall Netflix and Prime then install it again to get my Onkyo RZ -820 to show that I was getting Dolby Atmos through my receiver again ....this all after the 2nd Apple tvOS public beta 14.2 that apple sent out...and there was a new public beta tvOS update yesterday 10/14/20 , which I installed and had no problems since....I hope all whom are having issues get them resolved soon...this has been on going for some time now ✌🏻

Don’t know what to say to help you. I am running 14.3 and have no issues with audio .

i did see this poster on Reddit:

Atmos not appearing in Netflix, tvOS 14.3

I have an Apple TV 4K running 14.3, and the latest Netflix app. It is connected using brand new HDMI cables to a Denon AVR-X3700H

Apple TV+ content in Atmos works perfectly

With Netflix, shows that I know are in Atmos are showing up as “5.1” in the app

Is there a fix for this, or is Netflix just super buggy with Atmos right now?

UPDATE: After reading through some other posts on this topic, it would appear that you just need to play some Atmos content, and then the app will update to show the correct content format

Yep, I figured that out last night eventually, that the app seems to learn the capabilities of the ecosystem by playing a few streams first, which feels a bit buggy (it doesn’t do this with things like DolbyVision) but I can’t be sure that it wasn’t always like this. Prime also doesn’t state that the content contains an Atmos soundtrack but does work once playing.
