Any WiFi router that has MAC filter enabled may not accept the “Private” MAC address feature of the new feature added in iOS 14.0.1 to each WiFi profile saved. Turning off the private Mac Address on the specific WiFi profile may allow your device to connect.
Another issue is it connects fine but moments later it prompts for password on a saved profile. Turning off “wifi assist” in Cellular settings (absolute bottom of the list) will allow the device to remain connected on weaker range areas of this wifi profile.
I suspect the failing over to WiFi profile flip flopping is triggering a false positive on the algorithm that the wifi profile saved is incorrect and thus asks for a re-authentication.
As an update for my specific scenario, I did change the security option on my router to WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] and now connectivity to the internet seems stable. My theory may hold some water but curious what others are seeing.
Dear Steve,
I defined manuel DNS on my Iphone, thus, it didn’t have any affects to other devices in my home network.
in Wifi definition on iphone, select your network, push on (i) next to your network name, scroll down, in DNS section change it to manuel and enter first dns as 8.8.8.8 and secondary as 8.8.4.4.
this workaround solution worked for me, I hope works for you too!
bests,
RS.
I've tried all "suggestions" from this thread, and spent hours trying to fix problem. Talked with my internet provider and ran multiple tests on my router, no issues there. The issue is definitely iOS 14, 14.1, 14.2, 14.3. I'm in the process of DL 14.4 to see is that fixes the issue on 1 of my apple devices. Currently only thing that seems to "temporally" work is turning DO NOT DISTURB and AIR PLANE MODE on then turning device off for a few minutes, then turn back on device and turn DND & Airplane Mode off then reconnect to Wi-Fi, that fixes the issue for a few hours and then back to Wi-Fi disappearing. ALSO found that my VPN wasn't the issue as this happened on multi devices and some didn't have VPN at all.
Go to your Wifi Network settings and turn of private adress
I disabled /deleted VPN . It is ok now
Tried everything else. Turning off VPN Worked for me as well
If you have a vpn configuration on your phone try deleting it and see if WIFI stays on. It worked for me
Go into Settings/Cellular. Scroll aaaaaalll the way down to the bottom and turn off Wi-Fi Assist. Fixed it on our iPhones.
That’s exactly what is was. I set my router to auto and I think it was butting heads with my extender. Once I changed to a static channel, the issue was resolved
As others have pointed out, this appears to be a bug related to Wi-Fi Assist. As a workaround, go into Settings/Cellular. Scroll aaaaaalll the way down to the bottom and turn off Wi-Fi Assist.
Neither my wife's iPhone 8 nor my XR could reliably connect to the internet this morning (devices without a cellular connection were unaffected). Disabling Wi-Fi Assist seems to have solved the problem. Hopefully Apple will address this bug in the next update.
Personally, I did the "live" procedure with Apple support.
However, it's very "simple": complete reset of the iPhone (it is reinitialized) and only the data loaded in iCloud are saved. Everything else is lost and third-party Apps will have to be reinstalled and completely reconfigured.
... Pretty invasive and very laborious method!
Me too had trouble with Wi-Fi for days since update to iOS 14 until this morning. My iPhone 11 stay connected to Wi-Fi but after a few seconds stop surfing and have to manually switch to the mobile network. Finally i solved by removing the DNS servers configuration (opendns for me) from the dhcp configuration of the router and set to automatic. Hope this help someone. Ciao
Okay, after a couple of sessions on the phone with Apple it turns out that in my situation I have an app called Lockdown. It was diddling with the VPN configuration so the solution was to go into Settings-General-VPN-delete VPN configuration. Voila! Wifi returned to my devices.
I saw a message from this link https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/651079 and it works for me. Please see the details instruction posted 2 days ago by mattnext below.
issue: WiFi will not connect after iOS 14 update.
Ever since I updated to iOS 14, I could no longer connect to my home WiFi. It was driving me crazy, because every other device in the house is working. I tried reseting the Network Settings on my phone, that did not work. Restarted the router multiple times. Then I finally found this new Wi-Fi feature in iOS called, “Private Address”. Evidently this feature is turned on by default after you update to iOS 14. Reseting the network settings does not turn it off either.
To fix, Press the “Information” button next to the network name in your available Wi-Fi list. In the next screen, turn off “Private Address”.
That fixed it for me. Hope that helps.
I experienced the same WiFi issue after updating to iOS 14.1
After a lot of reading on forums I discovered that it must have a relation with a VPN connection on my iPhone 7.
I am using Bitdefender Mobile Security and as such enabled Webprotection via VPN.
I removed the VPN form settings/general/vpn
I immediately connected to WiFi again.
I navigated back to Bitdefender Mobile Security App and enabled Webprotection again.
Webprotection through VPN is working again and also WiFi
