iOS 14 and iOS 14.0.1 Sound Issues

Ever since updating to iOS 14 and iOS 14.0.1, I’ve had sound issues with the iPhone 11 Pro. Sound volume is extremely low for calls on speakerphone, watching YouTube videos, and listening to music.

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

The Apple rep first had me plug my phone into a pc then update my iTunes software then press the volume up button release then press the volume down button release. Then press the power button and hold it down until the phone rebooted to the Apple.

then I went on iTunes it should have a message pop up that says downloading I’m not sure what but it took about 25-30 minutes it looks like it’s just sitting there but if it says downloading your good. Once completed it asked you to pick a date to restore to I went back to before the update. Once it finished I setup my phone up like new but all my info came back and the sound is working weird thing is the software is the update. Good luck

Have you made sure that the switch on the left side of your phone is not in red and it's turned on? And also if you swipe down from the top make sure the volume is up. And then go into your settings into sound and make sure your volume is up there too. And also in the apps themselves, make sure that the volume button is turned on in the app window

For low volume phone calls, when music, games, etc. sound normal, try this. Worked for me.

Steps for iOS 14 users

Open the Settings app for your iPhone.

Select Accessibility > Touch.

Open Call Audio Routing and set it to Speaker.

That should do it. Alternatively, you can activate the 'Speaker Phone' button manually each time you answer a call.

Good luck, All !

We took our phone into Apple. Their diagnosis said we have a hardware issue and said we may have dropped it or knocked it.

we know we haven’t. It’s still in pristine condition.

so the Apple genius carried out a reset. Which didn’t work. So he is saying we have the following choices:

1) it’s out of warranty, put in a repair for £60 inclusive of vat. (This will get us new speakers)

2) wait for a software update and pray that a bug is acknowledged by Apple.

3) upgrade the phone

4) do nothing and live with it.

XS running iOS 14.0.1. Yes, the speaker phone volume, NOT alerts and ring volume, the SPEAKER volume for phone calls, music, YouTube, etc has dropped by at least a third if not half since iOS 14. It is NOT a hardware issue. For grins I tried my work phone which is an iPhone 7 with iOS 12 (4 phone generations old, running 2 year olds software) and the speaker volume is ear splitting loud. I have already restored from scratch, checked the settings, blah blah blah. iOS 14 lowered the overall volume emitting from the speakers. Period.

Since updating to 14.0.1 my volume on phone calls is very low even with volume set to the highest it will go. No problem on speaker or connected to car kit. I would say the volume is half of what it used to be. Tried a reboot, no joy. Tried noise cancellation on and off, no joy.

I really struggle to hear the other person on the call without putting the speaker on 🙄

This isn’t a “solution” but what I did is just turned all the volume off and put it on silent mode too (switch on the side of the phone). Sound issues are no longer a problem. Presents new problems of not knowing someone calls or texts if I don’t always have my phone right next to me but it did bypass the volume insanity. Hopefully there is an update soon but until then, this is a bandaid solution..
