iOS 14 and iOS 14.0.1 Sound Issues

Ever since updating to iOS 14 and iOS 14.0.1, I’ve had sound issues with the iPhone 11 Pro. Sound volume is extremely low for calls on speakerphone, watching YouTube videos, and listening to music.

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

Since updating to 14.0.1 my volume on phone calls is very low even with volume set to the highest it will go. No problem on speaker or connected to car kit. I would say the volume is half of what it used to be. Tried a reboot, no joy. Tried noise cancellation on and off, no joy.

I really struggle to hear the other person on the call without putting the speaker on 🙄

This is not iOS/iPhone but iPadOS/iPad, so your mileage may vary. Same exact problem, though I think it probably started with iPadOS 14.2 or 14.3. Turns out for video conferencing (FaceTime), the display slider is completely untethered from volume. You must use the volume buttons on the side to adjust volume or you won't be able to hear a thing.

Something to try, anyway. Good luck, guys.

My girlfriend mistakenly let her iPhone 10s automatically update to 14.4 two days ago and now neither of our iPhones are usable with no sound on phone, ringer, clock alarm, or with any videos viewed in Photos or on YouTube etc.

Why is Apple continuing to allow this seriously defective upgrade to be used that is destroy iPhones? Why are they apparently ignoring this problem that has me looking at android phones as a functioning replacement for my formerly beloved iPhone?

For low volume phone calls, when music, games, etc. sound normal, try this. Worked for me.

Steps for iOS 14 users

Open the Settings app for your iPhone.

Select Accessibility > Touch.

Open Call Audio Routing and set it to Speaker.

That should do it. Alternatively, you can activate the 'Speaker Phone' button manually each time you answer a call.

Good luck, All !

Agreed.. Never thought I’d switch to Samsung, but unfortunately, I have no choice.. I am so tired of this crap, apple gets sued, they pay out/fix everybody’s phone ..and start behaving- now going back to their old scheming ways.. Really Apple?? ..Do you really need to behave this way?? ..Ahh well, you will be caught again, do another payout maybe and repeat?? ..While Loyal customers taking the brunt -until we just get so sick of this treatment and move on.. I never hear of these issues with Samsung?

My call volume continues to be too low to use this phone without using the conference speaker on. This phone is unusable because I cannot even have private conversation. This continues to be a problem and there is apparently no fix. Apple fix this immediately. I cannot even use my phone and Apple's updates have rendered the most common feature useless.

Your solution is not an unreasonable one, I’m saddened to admit.

In order for me to come here to comment on your statement that came to me via email from Apple, I had to submit my thumb print, then my Apple user ID, then my password, then the secret numeric code sent to me from Apple upon presentation of my password.

What is so critically valuable that we are writing in here that requires that many excessive numbers of locked doors we have to successfully open to gain access to comments and questions like ours, that receive no response from anyone at Apple as far as I can tell?
