After the update Catalina 10.15.7 have problems with the Internet connection

Hello!

After yesterday's MAC OS Catalina 10.15.7 update, today I had a problem with the WiFI connection.

The connection is excellent, the icon shows that everything is fine, but the Internet periodically disappears. Yesterday, after the update, I did not notice any problems. Today it started, it's impossible to work, after turning off and turning on WiFi, the Internet works for 5-10 minutes and then problems again.

There were no such problems before the update.

I have an Airport Express router (firmware 7.81). Rebooting the router, resetting the settings does not help.

No problem with other devices like PS4, TV, Windows laptops.

Next to the Macbook is an old DELL XPS running Windows - Wi-Fi and internet are great, no problem.

PS: Iphone is experiencing similar issues after updating to 14.0.1.

For the first time in 10 years of using Apple devices, I faced such a problem. When nearby old Windows laptops are working fine and new Apple devices are not working (((

Please help. At the moment, the devices cannot work stably due to these problems.

Thanks!

Hi!

So I may have found the issue. I was online with a tech from Apple, shout-out Sarah, and we determined that my Norton 360 anti-malware software was causing the issue. It is most likely due to an incompatibility between the recent update 10.15.7. If you have Norton installed on your computer this could be the issue, however this could be the case with any anti-malware software that isn't recommended by Apple. I have removed Norton from my computer and the issue seems to be resolved. If this helps please let me know!

P.S: I will be reinstalling Norton as soon as an update is available and fixes the bug.

Hi

Can anyone help me please..I have this wifi issue and I need my mac for work. As I mentioned I followed all possible steps written on this feed.

I reinstalled macOS now again and I’m still unable to connect to WIFI.

Could it be a problem that my Mac doesn’t support this newest version, it’s an MacBook Pro 2014.

Can you give me a hint what should I do to solve this or to whom I can get for solving this.

Thanks a lot!

GW421, I followed your instructions. My MacBook still will drop network connections. The Internet is SLOW. It does speed up when I close the Mail app.

When it drops the network, it is slow to reconnect and will normally require me disabling WiFi to get a network connection again.

I have two work laptops running Windows 10 beside the MacBook. Both maintain network connections and are operating very well. This is definitely a MacOS related issue.

Are you aware of existing "configuration profiles" on this machine? - It's a Xfinity profile that allows me to connect to Xfinity hotspots. I don't use it often.

You don't need the WD software. - deleted this as soon as I saw the report.

"Memory Clean" - DON'T!!! - OK. I turned it off.

Those internet plug-ins are (probably) unnecessary. Silverlight does not work in any current browser, and you don't need Adobe to read pdf files in the browser. - I removed Silverlight. I'll also remove Adobe.

Like I said, the MacBook started acting normally after I powered it down and let it sit overnight. It's really a shame I can't update it to Big Sur. When it's working, this MacBook does everything I need it to do. I have maxed out the memory and upgraded to a SSD.

Thanks for your help.

I'm wondering if I should start a new thread or continue with this one as I'm back to having the same problem.

I've reboot my MacBook and the router. For some reason, the MB decided that it wanted to be extremely slow with wi-fi. It drops the wifi several times a day. I've tried deleting the network connection and recreating it. I've made sure my location is set to home. I don't know what else to do...I like the MacBook and don't want to buy a new one quite yet.

I have not tried installing from a bootable installer. I'll give it a try.

I have a Time Machine backup. I could recover to a period when the MacBook was functioning normally. I recently moved and have not set up the network completely again.

After I installed the Safari updated, the Catalina seems to be acting better and not dropping the network as often. I also have been changing the settings on my router, hoping to find a solution.

Yes, I agree. This is the first time I've have a major problem with the OS and the WiFi. You're right. The problem reminds me of problems with Windows drivers. Thankfully, the MacBook is now operating better.

A friend has a brand new MacBook. After the last update, she's had significant problems too. She needs to take the MacBook to the Genius counter, but she's also older. Going into a mall isn't the best idea at the moment.

Hi DiZoe, can you tell me how you fixed it on your system. I’ve tried everything that was mentioned in the threads or other tutorials, nothing seemed to work. I’ve noticed one thing, whenever I restart my laptop and do the speed test in safari , download speed is around 40 mbps but when I test it again it drops to 0.05 mbps within few seconds.

Hi Hamza2331!

I think the issue you’re describing maybe a bit different, is it just an internet speed issue, yet you are able to load web sites?

I can think of a few causes for that for sure.

Can you say what has been done so far for this issue? And if there were any changes made from when it was working, to when it wasn’t working? (Downloads, updates, even environmental changes such as a new router, change in internet provider, a power outage, adding new Bluetooth devices, even a move)?

I think this maybe good for a new discussion, but happy to help out either way, let me know!
