“Time to leave” alert in calendar not working

I’ve searched on the internet ways to solve this and I’m coming up short. When I set a calendar alert Time To Leave is crossed out and says “Time to leave alerts are not available because location-based services are not available”. My location based services are turned on. I feel like I’ve checked everything up and down including rebooting the phone but nothing works. Please help!

Hi there. I was having the same problem and researched it. Luckily I found the solution.

Got to settings>privacy> Location services> scroll all the way down to System Services and go to Location -Based Alert and turn on. That will fix it for you

This is a darn joke!!! Either it's yet another way Apple decided to collect data about me, or it's some userfriendliness-unsavvy IT guy who came up with this nonsense. I enter the the time to travel manually and get this very same message! It makes no sense. Anyway, I guess Apple employed some nitwit intern to "improve" the calendar app, making it worse as result.

I also had this problem and tried Navymom’s solution but it didn’t work for me even though it was the correct answer. Then I realized that some folks need to go one step further because of other settings. So follow Navymom’s fix but if that doesn’t work for you, then also do this: While still in Location Services, click Calendar and turn on “Allow Location Access… While Using the App”. And turn on Precise Location.

Yes, this seems to be true. If I set an appointment for a few minutes from now, it generates the "time to leave" notification, but if it isn't recently made this way, Calendar forgets entirely about generating the notification. Very frustrating (and it has also caused me to be late a few times). This service used to work perfectly but at some point Apple totally screwed it up. I don't know which update broke it, but I no longer get calendar notifications on any of my Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, or Mac). Could it be an iCloud setting?

Sorry, but no, this does not fix the problem for everyone. It doesn't for me. My locations services are turned on and my calendar setting are the same as yours, and I still don't receive time to leave notifications. I even tried a location services reset. It doesn't help either.

I did just receive a time to leave notification on my Mac for the first time in months, but it did not appear on my phone, iPad or watch. So this seems to be a bug without any solution that we can implement.

It's very frustrating because after many weeks sending feedback to Apple before they released the iOS 14.5 update, I thought they were going to fix it.

Again, emojis updates return for iMessage (nothing useful for those of us who live in Europe, because here we use WhatsApp) and improved settings for iPhone 12 (among other things, but without fixing time to leave).

I love this feature and I think I found the fix. Do everything else above. And go to https://calendar.iCloud.com on your computer/iPad. Not iPhone. My cloud calendar was empty. I added events and got the time to leave alert to work on my iPhone. I also added an event using iPhone and it showed up in the cloud calendar. Bottom line your cloud calendar is empty on you Mac cloud calendar. That’s why Time to Leave Alert is not working

I was not able to exactly figure it Out but I figured Out how To “go around “ it. When I took the address Out of Where I was going to on that day, it then worked. I had the correct address In and was pinned on the map. Not sure why it would not allow my alerts with the address in though. So for now my

problem is resolved lol. Thanks !

I had the same issue with Time to Leave not working. I tried what has been posted but the settings were already on so it didn’t help. I figured it out though and wanted to share if anyone else was still experiencing issues.

Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Scroll and select “Calendar” > Select “Allow Location Access While Using” (mine was off before)

My Precise Location is on as well as I think this affects the Calendar’s ability to tell you what time to leave.

Hope this helps!

It is true that it is very frustrating. It was a very good, unique service, which nobody else offers.

I don't think it's a problem with iCloud because besides trying my iCloud account, I've tested my calendar with my Outlook and Gmail accounts and it doesn't work either. Rather seems a mistake of the App Calendar.

I hope that in iOS 15 Apple stop focusing on creating new emojis for iMessage and fix this bug!
