Homekit: "all home hubs are not responding"

Hi,

After the update of OS 14 of the iPhone and the Apple TV, my wife's iPhone (HomeKit guest) cannot remote control our home accessories. There is a notification saying that "all home hubs are not responding" and in the Home app of the iPhone the AppleTV is "Disconnected". On my iPhone everything is ok and I tried resetting all the devices and logging off and in on iCloud on my wife's iPhone.

Do you have the same issue?

iPhone XR

Thx. I did reboot the phone, disabled 2 apple TV as hub, added a homepod as only hub. Rebooted all devices as well as my router. That seems to work for the last 24 hours without the constant error.

Another thing I discovered, my mesh network does a auto reboot every night

as maintenance (didn’t know this was set).

So that explains the error every night at least...

Ammendment - WORK AROUND found (and hint for root cause):

1st - update on config - ATV is 4 and not 3.

Root cause suspicion: on the iPhone 11 (and only on that device in my case) the network stack is in trouble. Toggling that new 'private' switch makes no difference.

WORK AROUND: If ATVs are disconnected --> perform 'network reset' on the iPhone 11, reconnect to WLAN, thats it for the moment. This works also remote, i.e. no WLAN but LTE etc.

As I know, this 'solution' lasts for minutes, hours, days, weeks ... i.e. no idea, which event makes the network stack to loose its mind again.

Yes, it is a network problem, but on the iPhone, not the network itself.

Solution:

previously I found out already, that old iPhones, i.e. ones not running latest iOS, need to be removed from the account. I did that long time ago, but had a "twin" carrier sim-card, i.e. sim-card with same phone number, installed in one of the removed oldies.

I pulled that twin sim-card out of the oldie and voila - stable homekit connections on the 11. Although the oldie was detached from the account, annoying messages about carrier charges for imessage etc. made me aware, that there is still a kind of connection.

Funny aspect - a second twin card reside in the iPAD, which had no problems at all.

There is some work for Apple to identity root cause and fix either the network stack or homekit or both.

Having twin sim-cards in otherwise disconnected phones (no family sharing, not on same apple-id etc.) is a setup not forbidden.

Hi all,

Well I experience exact the samen problem.

I also tried the same thing you describe to try to resolve the issue.

Also for me without any luck.

I also contacted Apple support by Phone, but also without luck.

But I notices I don't have this problem only with 1 guest user, but with all the guest users.

I create a couple of "test" accounts and login on a different iPhone, but all of the guest user will be disconnect with the HomeKit Hub (Apple TV 4K) when it's outside the local WIFI/ Lan network.

We start noticing this problem after upgraded to IOS14 on al the devices, but not sure if this has a relation.

I'm still searching for a solution :-(.

all latest OS:

2 x ATV-3, setup as homekit hubs

1 x iPAD Air2, on primary account

1 x iPhone 7, on familiy account

1 x iPhone 11, on primary account

On ALL devices, but the 11, homekit works, i.e. both ATVs are connected, one as master, the other as standby.

On the 11 both ATVs enter state "connected / standby" erratically(*) over the lapse of a day. Both change state to "disconnected" repeatedly over night.

(*) no pattern how to force it, or which event makes it happen.

Being in the state "disconnected" on the 11 and removing a ATV from homekit (ATV settings), its state changed immdiately to "no response" on the 11 --> it is not a network problem apparently. Exactly the 11 does not want to talk to the ATVs.

This results in a home, which is controlled remotely only by my wife (family member, iPhone 7).

I hate this gender play, Mrs. Apple !

I have two homes setup. One works fine, the other has this problem. I have an iPhone 12 Pro (iOS14.4.1)the home has an Apple TV (TVOS 14.4) and a HomePod mini (latest OS). I keep getting messages that one or all HomePod hubs is/are not responding. Sometimes I get a message a few minutes later saying a hub has connected.

I also have an issue that Home reports that my HomeKit camera has switched to Stream only mode because someone has arrived home, of conversely switched to Stream and record because everyone has left. These messages occurs even when no member of my Home family is within 200 miles of the place!

This happened this morning when a relative dropped something off at my house. He’s not in my Home family, but he has probably connected his phone to my WiFi. I wonder if his phone connects to my wife and Home sees this as a family member returning home.

I’ve also had a situation when I have arrived home and it’s not been detected so an Automation setup to trigger on my arrival hasn’t worked. In this case I had to find my keys in the dark!

whatever is happening, it’s an annoying bug and needs to be fixed please. Resetting or rebooting everything is, at best, a temporary solution and one that is not feasible in a second home.

My Arlo system was also lost from HomeKit this week. I had to factory reset Arlo and create everything again. After i setup Arlo again, my HomeKit started sending the “all home hubs are not responding” message. Random too. One time doorlocks, then appletv, then a camera. Very frustrating. I do think it was caused by an AppleTv update. This error sends every few minutes, all day long.

Any update here?

My iPhone 12 gives me around 15-20 times

a day the same pop up followed by a “a home hub is responding”. 1-2 min later.

I never loose access when opening the app. I’ve done everything from reset to sing in and out. Removed all hubs except an Apple TV 4k and even set the stand by/sleep time to “never”, thinking that could be the problem.

Same problem here!

All fine until today, my wife leaves the house and can’t arm the security system on her iPhone as it shows all home hubs not responding.

I have tried everything suggested above with no luck.

I tried deleting my wife as a home guest and re inviting her but again as soon as she no longer as access to our LAN over WiFi all hubs show no response and and all access is lost.

All hub are also showing as offline on her iPhone 11 now even when she is connected to our LAN via WiFi. Although when connected to the LAN via WiFi she still has access to all accessories some how.

This is not just an irritation it is a security issue for our home and needs to be sorted ASAP!

I also have the “all home hubs are not responding” message. If I try to open the home app on different devices it is consistent. It looks to me that it is rather the AppleTV that looses the connection to Apples servers or it looses the connection to the bridges within my home’s network. I have tried different Apple TV’s disabling / enabling HomeKit and even run two in parallel.

Haven’t been able to solve it yet.

Please, solve this bug with Apple TVs and Homekit remote access for guest.
