wifi calling ios 14

After updating to ios 14.01 my wifi calling drops out randomly. Happens with airplane mode on and off. Have done a complete restore twice, disable/enable the feature, and hard reboot. My carrier is Verizon. Anyone else having this kind of issue?

I just got off a long chat with Verizon and learned the following. Cutting and pasting what they told me.

This is a known issue. The alert states:

“Some customers with iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max may be experiencing issues with making or receiving calls on Wi-Fi calling. Users may also experience drop calls with Wi-Fi calling.”

“Apple is currently working on this issue and will be releasing the fix in an upcoming software update, although we don't have an exact date as to when that update will be released. Some routers broadcast both a 5GHz and 2.4GHz signal. The 5GHz connection will be faster but have a shorter range. Have you tried connecting and using wi-fi calling with both of these signals from your router (if available)?”

I am having the exact same issue. Constant dropped calls (call failed) when on wifi calling. Never had any issues before we got iPhone 12s with IOS14.2. I don’t think it’s Verizon or my wifi. Sounds like either an IOS or Iphone12 issue. Anyone else having the same issue? Any suggestions? I’ve tried different settings (turning off 5G), resetting network settings, etc. And it still does it.

Yes, I am on a mesh network. I have not tried WiFi Calling anywhere else but home. I was hoping 14.2.1 would fix this and it did not. I just tried a hard reset, hoping it makes a difference in my next call.

Previously I have tried the following without success:

turning the phone off/on

network reset

Turning cellular data off/on

turning WiFi calling off/on

toggle airplane mode

I don’t believe we are on a mesh network. We haven’t been able to try WiFi calling on other networks/routers yet. I can add that when the phone status is on “VZW WiFi” it cuts off right around 3 minutes pretty much every time when the call drops. Even when I have WiFi calling activated but the phone status is on “Verizon” then the calls are fine. WiFi calling on “VWZ WiFi” works only sometimes usually after turning WiFi calling off and on. Also I have been able to duplicate the issue on both of our phones. Checked the settings and stuff with our WiFi router and there doesn’t appear to be anything there that I can change. Also as mentioned, haven’t had issues with our other devices that connect to our WiFi router and never had issues with our iPhone 6 and 6+ phones having dropped calls on WiFi calling with our same WiFi router.

Update:

Verizon engineers said everything in my area was up to spec. Been leaving my phone in airplane mode because the test calls started working. Tried actually holding a conversation today. Still in airplane mode with WiFi turned on. WiFi calling showing as active. Full signal strength as I’m maybe 10’ away (at most) with clear line of sight. Signal never wavered and the call dropped after maybe 15 minutes. HAS to be a bug in iOS.

We have the same problem. Worked fine for 2 years. iPhone X and new iPhone 11. Tested with eero ans direct to xfinity router. Drops calls in 3-5 min. Texts do not come through from non iOS systems (android, MFA verifications) and incoming calls never ring. Reset network setting on phones. No fix. Rebooted networks and phones multiple times no fix. Disabled and Re-enabled Wifi calling. No fix.

I am going to have to get a landline because this is a safety issue with small children in our home and massive productivity issue working from home.

common denominator is iOS 14.

im annoyed.

I’ve had this issue for months, can’t find a “fix”. I think it’s connected to the WiFi assist and experience it on both phone and iPad. I can make and receive calls, and I can hear the other end but they can’t hear me. The only thing I’ve found that works is to turn off and restart the phone (or iPad) but eventually happens again.

Completely agree this is an IOS issue. Had the issue on several wifi networks, home and work, on my 8 plus. The issue followed to my 12 max pro.... clearly an issue with 14 or some corruption in the profile. I echo the comments of those struggling to work from home. I have tried every combination of wifi and cellular (5g and LTE) calling possible with no option preforming better than another. The biggest frustration is incoming calls often do not ring to the phone. I will occasionally haves someone mention they tried to call me and I have nothing from them in my missed call logs, the best option I can give is to leave a voice mail which will likely pop up a notification alerting me to the missed call. I plan on another round of apple support calls tomorrow, I have had 2 with them and another several with Verizon since upgrading my device after Thanksgiving.

If you hook up you phone to your computer and restore your phone. Not restore from back up. Just restore. And when it is done do a restore from backup to get back all the stuff on your phone. (Make sure you do a backup before you start) wifi calling will work.

it must be via your computer. Not over the air. Even if you erase all your data. It must be do as a complete restore via the computer.

You can do as you please of course. The problem is not with 14. It is the upgrade process. Please back up your phone via your computer. Then just restore it via the computer. Not restore from backup. Just restore. Then restore from backup to get your data back.

it will work trust me. I have gone thru two new 12pros and backup from restore. I then got a very smart senior tech from Apple. She walked me thru. Stayed on the phone with me for 90 min.

she explained that when you update your phones base software (14.xx or so) you are only patching what you phone already has. So if you hook it up to your computers do restore it. It puts a new version on your phone. Much much different then an over the air update. It worked for me and I had the problem for two 30 days.
