vmware fusion 12 player doesn't load bootcamp partition, parallels does, just the way it is?

Tried vmware because it recently became free, when I tried to use my bootcamp partition it says failed error or something along those lines and didn't even start, then it thought it was windows 7, but it was windows 10. Maybe because it's a legacy bios bootcamp partition is what vmware has trouble with.

Parallels picked it up and it ran decently, , then my trial ran out and parallels is $$$pensive. I'm too lazy to reboot though.

Do not confuse VMware Player with VMware Fusion. Parallels and Fusion are VM engines, VM Player is not. Your Vmware KB link is for VMware Fusion, not VM Player.

From https://www.vmware.com/products/workstation-player/workstation-player-evaluation.html,

VMware Workstation Player is an ideal utility for running a single virtual machine on a Windows or Linux PC. Organizations use Workstation Player to deliver managed corporate desktops, while students and educators use it for learning and training.

The free version is available for non-commercial, personal and home use. We also encourage students and non-profit organizations to benefit from this offering.

Bootcamp/Windows is not a Virtual Machine, but can be imported as one using VMware Fusion. Parallels can also do the same (import) function.

I believe so, I installed a few days ago, I shutdown and rebooted several times since, player loads fine. I just tested installing debian 10 and it went along well, I didn't finish though because I didn't want to partition and and give it 20 gb of disk space.

I'll call main 800 number like a confused grandma and try to confirm it won't work that way, not paying 29 dollars to talk to someone to tell me it won't work, that's 1/3 price of parallels in canadian dollars which I know works.

I appreciate they made player free but a support email to contact them wouldn't kill them
