I take a lot of screen captures (photos not video) and email them. Never had an issue before. However, since IOS14 I'm getting a lot of lag and or freezing. I've tried everything I know of to rectify but continues to happen.

Found a Solution
Requested from Apple for service, they sent to Best Buy, they couldn’t do and I had to go to Apple store. They said everything was fine. Told them random automatic restarts, freeze when screen shots, lagging for no reason. They did “diagnostics” in 2 steps, first software and second was hardware. Both came out good, of course, why would they own it. Guy advised me to go complete clean erase, when fresh setting up your iPhone, do not opt for any backup, meaning you start fresh. However, if you backed up youth photos, messages, contacts and other essential stuff, when you login, they should all come back. Only issue is to reinstall every old app manually. Now my 12 pro max doesn’t lag, no restarts or screenshot freeze. So the problem was to restore a backup from the old phone.

The screen freezing issue when taking a screenshot appears to be linked to the IOS accessibility settings; when back tap option is toggled on. Shame, considering the back tap being one of the top cool features of the latest IOS update. Cool feature which can’t be used until this is fixed :(
Hey Brian, I was having this same problem and I don’t know if you have your back tap on to screenshot but I did and I turned it off and my screenshots are no longer delayed. I am not 100% sure that was the problem but it worked for me so I figured I would tell you.

No more issue since I deactivate the tap shortcut at the back of the phone.

I've noticed now that closing all the apps in the background can make it temporarilystop doing this. It may be a memory problem.
I started this thread months ago. I also spent a month or two with Support trying to figure this out. They were pulling diagnostics from my phone etc etc but all of a sudden they stopped communicating with me. I assume they don't have a fix so don't want to deal with me. They were aware of this thread because I told them and they saw it early on. I have three different phones all doing it starting the day IOS14 was released. It does not do it prior to IOS14. The rep did tell me they changed around the screen capture when they brought us the tap back for screen shot feature in IOS14....I suspect this might never get rectified.
Update: Apple has my 24 hours of log files. During that time I had all the fails. Image Freezing until Lock button pushed, images not appearing but going straight to photos, trying to email a photo and getting the loading wheel..They told me they have all the data and we should see a fix in an upcoming update. No time frame given.
Yeah this is an apple thing not a phone thing. I've heard of it doing it on the iphone 11 as well. I believe it's a bug with iOS 14. It REALLY bugs me on my iPhone 12 max. Try to screenshot and nothing happens... about 10-15 seconds later oh... there's the screenshot... but guess what?! you can't click on it for another 10 seconds!!
It's a feature not a bug.
Ever since I toggled the back touch on then off, I’ve had far less trouble with the screen shot bug. My phone did not update last night so I’m still running the next to last firmware. Will see how 14.5 treats me also.
