I take a lot of screen captures (photos not video) and email them. Never had an issue before. However, since IOS14 I'm getting a lot of lag and or freezing. I've tried everything I know of to rectify but continues to happen.

Found a Solution
Requested from Apple for service, they sent to Best Buy, they couldn’t do and I had to go to Apple store. They said everything was fine. Told them random automatic restarts, freeze when screen shots, lagging for no reason. They did “diagnostics” in 2 steps, first software and second was hardware. Both came out good, of course, why would they own it. Guy advised me to go complete clean erase, when fresh setting up your iPhone, do not opt for any backup, meaning you start fresh. However, if you backed up youth photos, messages, contacts and other essential stuff, when you login, they should all come back. Only issue is to reinstall every old app manually. Now my 12 pro max doesn’t lag, no restarts or screenshot freeze. So the problem was to restore a backup from the old phone.
Yeah this is an apple thing not a phone thing. I've heard of it doing it on the iphone 11 as well. I believe it's a bug with iOS 14. It REALLY bugs me on my iPhone 12 max. Try to screenshot and nothing happens... about 10-15 seconds later oh... there's the screenshot... but guess what?! you can't click on it for another 10 seconds!!
It's a feature not a bug.
Ever since I toggled the back touch on then off, I’ve had far less trouble with the screen shot bug. My phone did not update last night so I’m still running the next to last firmware. Will see how 14.5 treats me also.
We appreciate your feedback, please let us clarify. We understand you are on iOS 14, but we wanted to check if you are specifically on the latest version of iOS 14. At the time of this writing, the current version of iOS 14 is iOS 14.1. Were you able to verify no updates are needed on your device?

Based on the description of your issue at this point, we would like to confirm the current status of your device's battery health. You can check it by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Normal battery performance should show a maximum capacity percentage of at least 80%

A personal update. I got my phone (11 pro) replaced by Apple under warranty yesterday, for a separate issue and the new phone has just done it’s first screenshot freeze this morning.

To start with, can you confirm for us that you're running the latest version of iOS 14? You can check by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

I finally talked to a tier 2 rep for 1 1/2 hours. She said there are no reports that have come in there but she carefully wrote up the issue for engineering. If more people call she said it will help speed a fix. Here is the Case Number: 101247345474
Reinstalling apps didn’t do the trick, this issue is tied to the OS and not any particular application.
I hard reboot “fixes” things. But temporarily. Also not the best way to go about things.
I have tried to see if this is related to Low battery mode but seems to happen even when battery is charged and over 80%.
Its weird that this isn’t getting any traction on any tech sites - have seen this happen to almost every user at one point or another in iOS 14+ on the iPhone Pro.
Still frustrating. When I take a screen shot and nothing happens now at least I know not to spam it, just go to pictures and send from there - making this function totally useless.
Not mad at Apple, but hope some one gets their eyes on this Soon to resolve!
hello, I got same problem here. Screen capture freezes frequently, not always, but still happened
especially when I try to share screen capture
device iphone 12mini, ios 14.3
its doesn't happen on my old device iphone 6s
here is one recorded when it happened, battery , storage, network connection no problem.
you can see capture function does work immediately until 50sec after.
I still could swipe until capture function pop up, than freeze for few second.
I tried to looking for help at local repair center.
They got no idea with this issue, and help to reset device, but problem doesn't solved.
And there are few cases similar on our community.
Yeah it’s definitely not the phone. It started with iOS 14 back in October and I’ve had it happen on my 12 my 11 and some others. As you know iOS 14 introduced tap to take a screenshot and somehow they’ve screwed up the software. I’ve tried till I’m blue in the face to get some kind of help and nobody at Apple will acknowledge the issue let alone try and fix it.
Thanks for the update. I take a lot of screenshots for my job, sometimes hundreds a day. Have to restart my phone probably 3-5 times a day to get them to start working again when they start doing their freezing routine. Keep us updated!

I have an iPhone 11 PRO MAX with plenty of space. Most recent iOS14 Version 14.4.2.
had this Scree capture bug since update to iOS14.
It lags, it even crashed springboard at the time. Maybe it freezes the screen... sometimes the capture animation and thumbnail appears several, several, seconds after the fact and sometimes it's even impossible to get rid of it... In short, all kind of weird stuff, annoying stuf, that worked like a charm in iOS13.
It renders Screen Capture almost useless....

I was able to SOLVE this by using the camera of my Android to fully encompass iPhone's screen and take a photo which I then emailed to my iPhone 😅
