Ok I finally got it working with my macbook pro.

  • First forget the beats flex on everywhere, iPhone, Macbook, iPad etc.
  • Then connect first on macbook then other devices.

After this it started working with macbook fine but switching to macbook from iphone was not painless on first try, need to adjust things on macbook. But after second switch between them it was somehow normal.

Maybe better support will come with Big Sur.

I had the same issue with my brand new beats flex and my MacBook (Catalina 10.15.7).

Neither resetting them (power button and volume down button for 15 seconds) nor disabling bluetooth on my iPhone, iPad (including power off my atv 4 and watch 4) helped in the first place.

My last try was dow restart my MacBook Pro (15" late 2013), log-in, (also switched of w-lan – only for sure), and then immediately hold the beats flex power button for 3 seconds, and add the beats flex inside the bluetooth control panel. They got connected but I could not transfer any sound to them and few seconds later they get disconnected again (but staying in the list of active devices). I give them another try spotting an Options button at the right with activated "Automatic Ear Detection" (that only make sense for headsets like AirPods or Powerbeats Pro). I disabled that option. And now anything works fine.

Meanwhile I found out, that that "Ear Detection" option activate/de-activate the magnetic pause feature (similar to the put out-of-your-ear-pause-AirPods-feature). Now as they are well paired and connected, I tried to re-activate that option and it worked well with Music-App. But at my first pairing it was necessary to deactivate that option.

Another issue on Mac is using the headsets microphone. That switches audio to low quality mono sound. If you want to fix it, I recommend to switch sound-input to another device (like internal Mic). You can recognise that "LQ voice-chat-mode" at the sound output system control panel witch does not show the balance control anymore, if You switched to that mode.

I have the issue and posted about it, i can connect and pair directly to the MacOs (Mojave) Macbook Air 2018 -- however it won't Pair when its in Synch with IoS devices, and the swapping of Audio using the ICloud Accounts currently does not work (maybe Apple can fix this?) I can swap from Iphone to Ipad Audio using the iCloud account fine -- for the Macbook Air i had to remove the Bluetooh entry created fully and re-pair from scratch ... now i cannot connect to IOS devices however :(

I can get them to connect to my MacBook Pro, however, they're clearly using the phone audio connection for media. Sound is very flat and slightly muffled when listening to music on my MacBook, whereas it's rich and clear when connected to my iPhone or iPad. I tried removing the Flex from all my devices and connecting first to my MacBook, but the audio issue persists. It's clearly not a hardware issue, as the sound is great when connected to my iPhone, so hopefully either a firmware update, or a macOS update will resolve this.
