itunes not detecting iphone 12

Hey guys, just got my iphone 12 (previous phone was iphone 8), but itunes is not detecting the iphone 12. I'm trying to transfer all the data, texts etc from the iphone 8 to 12 but whenever I connect the 12 to my windows PC it just doesn't detect in itunes. My PC detects it - I can see it in my files and it is in device manager, but itunes just doesn't recognise it. itunes is up to date with the latest version and it still detects my iphone 8 when I plug that in. I tried power cycling the phone and even uninstalling/re-installing itunes but no luck .. tried it in different USB ports as well which is the only thing which makes a slight difference. In one USB port its like it detects it for a brief moment then its gone, all other ports it never appears in itunes. But all my USB ports work perfectly fine with all other devices.

So I was hoping people may have any advice? Cheers :)

I have a few other lightning cables (mostly Apple branded) but my computer does not have a USB-C port on it. However, I was finally able to get it to work after connecting an Apple brand USB-A to Lightning cable directly to a USB 3.1 port on the back of my computer (directly connected to the motherboard). All other ports did not work, even though device manager was detecting the iPhone correctly and following the various reinstall recommendations did not work. Only the USB 3 port worked properly and I didn't have to restart everything - though of course in all my troubleshooting i did a number of restarts and reinstalls so it can't hurt if you restart your computer or iTunes as well.

Just for background, I've got an iPhone 12 Mini on iOS 14.3. The computer I'm trying to sync to is an AMD Ryzen 3 (Gigabyte B450M motherboard) running Windows 10 (with the latest Dec 2020 patches). I do not have a USB-C port on the computer anywhere, so the included cable is not particularly useful at the moment. Thanks for the discussion which helped me narrow down some things to try.

Just wanted to say that I'm having the same issue Iphone 12 Mini running AMD Ryzen 5 PC

Sometimes I have managed to connect but the connection can fail halfway through transferring files. All brand new cables, brand new phone and happens the same on several different USB ports so this is not an old cable or "bit of fluff"

Just in case any apple support check the threads I thought I would add my issue to the list of many others.

I use 2015 iMac (Catalina 10.15.7) with USB to lightning that came with XR.

After read Delirium1881's post I found that my new iPhone 12 is in a "Relocated Items" folder. I was able to "Trust" the iPhone 12.

In this folder there is a file "What Are Relocated Items?" It says: During the last macOS upgrade or file migration, some of your files couldn't be moved to their new locations. This folder contains those files."

I had 2011 MacBook Pro/ iMac migration 2 months ago.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid a complete reset as I'm not 100 percent confident that the iPhone will stay connected to iTunes to restore from the one backup that I actually managed to get.

I tried an over-air update to iOS 14.3 today to see if that would help. It didn't. That said, I did eventually manage to get a wireless backup on my computer. It took a couple of hours, but at least I do now have a recent encrypted backup.

Anyway, at least I can sync to iTunes with a cable, and backup wirelessly. A fix would be nice, though.

I ran into the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max connecting to my MacBook Pro. Try the following to resolve the issue.

1.) Connect iPhone to the MacBook Pro (I used my USB to Lighting cable)

2.) Open "Finder"

3.) On the left side under "Locations" select your iPhone

4.) Select "Trust" in Finder and on your iPhone (If you use a PIN it will ask you to input)

5.) Open "Music" on the MacBook Pro (You should now see your iPhone)

I have an iPhone 12 Mini and when I connect it to my laptop (Ryzen 5 3500U so it's possibly not an AMD issue) it works almost perfectly (aside from the normal iTunes idiosyncrasies) but doesn't show an actual image for the iPhone, just a generic grey image like this:

Could it be that apple have given up on iTunes for windows? Seems a shame if they have.

iTunes 12.11.0.26 on Windows 10 DOES see my iPhone 12 Pro. I can backup my iPhone 12 Pro to my Windows PC without any difficulty.

What iTunes12.11.0.26 FAILS to see is the 72 GB of music that I transferred from my iPhone 6 to the 12 Pro. It's definitely on the phone; I can see it and the music app can play it. But, as far as iTunes on my PC is concerned, that 72 GB is unused, available space.

I don't know anything about Macs, except that I do not own one.
