iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

Hello, I just bought an iPhone 12 today and I seem to be having the same issues. I began using the phone right away after it was set up, to download apps and make it more personalized as we all do, but I did experience it heating up right away, and extremely hot as well. This got me worried which led me to researching and it brought me here. Please let me know if you find a solution! That was too much money to spend on something that overheats in just a few minutes.

This is the exact issue I’ve been experiencing. I have had the phone since it’s release (12 pro max) and it has been fine up until yesterday. It heats up when doing the most menial of tasks, even to the point where I have to put the phone down to cool. Seriously not impressed as I dropped over $2k (NZD) into this phone. I hope to hear soon what this issue is and how to resolve it.

I’ve been having the overheating issue since I got my 12 pro max and finally solved it. The phone would always be warm, even more so when I was actually using it but nothing showed up in the battery history significant. I restored a few times and reset all setting but after a lot of digging I discovered a bit with I cloud, particularly I cloud for windows creating a sort of never ending sync, so I turned off iCloud for safari, deleted the local bookmarks, uninstalled iCloud for windows and then turned iCloud for safari back on and no more hot phone, works for me, so hopefully it may help some of you.

Yes man, right here with you. Phone is over heating in the car. From GPS and streaming a audio book over YouTube. Need to take the case off and hold out the window to cool down or put up against the AC vent and blast it. Then it will let me use my phone again. Also noticed the screen flashing at night when I’m watching a movie or YouTube. The screen will flash white faintly. It’s annoying and will probably trade this iPhone 12 Pro Max for the 13 right away. I still have my 11 pro max that’s a champ. I’m a 2 phone guy.

I’ve had my iPhone 12 mini going on a month now and it is over heating as well. I say ‘overheating’ because I’m pretty sure the phone has heat going through it because it’s running and there are a lot of moving parts but the phone is hot to the touch. I believe if I was to let it sit on my skin it would definitely burn my skin badly. Luckily, I don’t have this issues with the new iPad Air

Actually, i have found a solution - tough partial and applies only to those in similar circumstances. I had, as part of my Norton subscription, downloaded on my iPhone 12ProMax the app and activated, as it suggested, the VPN. Well, my phone started with the overheating and battery drainage issues, even consuming up to 65% battery by 10 AM!!!

Once I removed the VPNs, all went back to normal. no overheating, and now it is 5 pm and i still have 70% battery despite normal use of the phone (calls, texts, internet searches, etc)

So I hope this helps someone

BesT of luck

You assertion "other phones don't need air to cool" is false and completely wrong. ANY activity that drives a Lithium iON battery to work harder, which running a video for an hour surely does, makes the battery work harder, causing heat. This is the physics of batteries and completely normal. When you deny the device air movement, such as putting it under a pillow causing the heat to build up further is most unwise and honestly potentially DANGEROUS.

I hope NO ONE tries your not very wise experiment. It is not a measure of anything and in fact could cause harm to peoples phones or even cause something worse if they do this.

I’m fuming... the software update did not help!!! This device is still overheating like crazy! I’m currently trying to watch a news channel online, but after less than 30 minutes watching this device is so burning hot that I can’t hold it in my hands/palm. My fingers are burning up trying to write this, so I’ll keep it short: This iPhone 12 Pro device that I’ve purchased is faulty from the start and I will not risk my health or property by using a device that just might go up in flames. I demand a replacement (with hopefully a functional device) or a full refund. I will contact the seller and return this and will also dmenad an explanation from Apple Support again. The software update was supposed to fix yhe overheating problem. It did not. This just won’t do!
