iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

I have had the same issue. Multiple overheating episodes with my iphone 12 pro. Once when I was using (maps app) in an air conditioned car. It was so bad I could not reset the phone and had to take it to the apple store.

Other times, I was able to use the phone after a period of time (less than 10 mins).

I have never had any "overheating" issues with my other iphones (9, 10 and 11).

They perfomed diagnosatics at apple store after one episode of overheating. They could not find an error message confirming overheating when they checked eventhough I brought the phone to the store because I was not able to use it for overheating (3-4 hours after the "overheating" message showed up on my phone).

I travel often for work and am worried if this overheating happens during my trips, making me unable to work. I have asked for help from apple store to replace my iphone 12 pro but they refuse to do so. Not very happy after so many years of loyalty to apple products!

This also happened to me. My iPhone 12 Pro was already done setting up, everything from my previous backup loaded. I was doing some light browsing the night I got it, and my phone got extremely hot. Like nothing I've experienced with previous iPhones - the metal bumper felt like a metal handle from a pan left on the stove, and the back was also very hot. I turned my phone off, waited a few seconds, and turned it back on, and that seemed to fix it. However just now, I noticed my phone was getting a bit warmer than usual, so I did the same thing. I have a case on it now, so I'm not sure if it got as hot as that first night and the case was buffering the heat I felt. After restarting, my phone feels fine.

My guess is something is getting stuck in the background, and the phone latches onto that and goes into overdrive until it's forcefully disconnected. Only a guess, but it's very annoying, and it makes me worry about the already short battery life...

Yea I can agree that usually will happen when trying to restore from I cloud. Now my situation I already restored from backup I’m using any app for more then 10 minutes and my phone is over heating temperature lock comes up during the middle of a call and it locks can use till it cools down. Anyways apple got me in to trade which was not an easy task at all because I bought the phone online picked up at store and I was on the upgrade. I sat there for 6 hours and left with an iPhone SE LOL something is not right here haha. It was a huge mess and they were looking at me like hmm please iPhone has no flaws it was embarrassing and I left with 1,400 less money then I did at the beginning of the day luckily this lady took over and helped me out. I’m not sure right now sort of disappointed that this was supposed to be the best phone but I’m starting to miss my 11pro max. Never over heated lasted for hrs of use. If you have this problem good luck and prosperity

hopefully this helps others. My phone was overheating as well. Yesterday I called my provider as I got an email saying my phone didn’t activate properly. I switched from an XR to a 12 pro. I was sent a new SIM card but never used it because I already had a SIM card. Apparently the new SIM card is set up for 5G and the old one wasn’t. My phone being a 5G phone was trying to connect to 5G but didn’t have capability because of the sim. I’m not sure if the is the complete problem but my phone is definitely cooler today. I’ll update if anything changes.
