iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Actually it really is because most people who have Waze have had it for years. I’ve seen Apple say delete apps. Also somehow we’ve gone from “you’re phone is basically waterproof” to “be aware of humidity “

at this time I am a delivery driver and keep it plugged in most of the day but the battery doesn’t charge faster than the food app and the map deplete the battery. I’ve had 2 phones before this one doing the same job and it’s never been so stressful.

Well of course if diagnostics reveal a hardware issue, the phone should be replaced. How many people on this forum saying "ME TOO" my phone is getting hot have had diagnostics reveal such an issue. Many are saying they've had diagnostics and nothing is wrong. But few are doing anything like checking the battery usage to see if a rogue app is causing their issue.

One of my bosses was having this issue on his iPhone 12 Pro Max. A quick look at the battery usage on his phone showed Waze was not turning off when not being used. Waze chews through one's battery usage and that generates heat. Deleting the Waze app, then reinstalling it and his phone is running cool as a cucumber now.

The point is people are not doing much of any troubleshooting to see if there is something causing this. Instead, they're convinced their phone is defective. While there will of course be some hardware issues, the vast majority won't.

I didn’t notice this massive, colossal issue until I went to Disney world this past weekend and was constant using my iphone for pictures and videos.

IT got to the point I got the temperature warning and wouldn’t let me use the flash photography, i had to wait a good 20 minutes for it to cool down on the device, then video sessions I recorded while taking pictures on the camera app crashed to the Home Screen at which point they didn’t save.

Never ever in my 10 years of owning apple iphones have i seen a phone heat up frequently while using it. It was doing it twice an hour from the frequent pictures and frequent videos being recorded.

Had to setup a repair for an exchange.

really?

I disagree. You're demeaning an entire universe of - probably seasoned - users because your boss is a proxy for everyone, and got nipped with a Waze bug?

Remember, dear sir, that in iOS 13, Apple changed the way that background application refreshed worked - SIX times. And then email was being retrieved in the background. Then it wasn't.

Please do not point the finger at users. If there are over 2000 "me too" clicks, something is amiss.

(and based on the quality of 2020 Apple devices - AirPods Pro from Vietnam, Watch SE, and now this - I wouldn't something might be wrong).

that's interesting. Does the power brick get hot too, or just the phone (this could be a proxy for "dirty power", btw).

Apple reinforced the Lightning charging area in the 8/X generation for increased (faster) charges. I didn't notice much heat then, but definitely noticed it more recently.

I use one of the new single USB-C GaN chargers now, which generally remains cooler.

I bought my parents a double-C GaN charger and it, too, remains cool (as does an iPhone 11 and Xr plugged in).

every new iphone release for me is met with factory defects, the biggest culprit was the iPhone 7 Plus, i must had exchanged like 5 of them with apple to get a non defective one. You buy an apple product knowingly they make bank on repairs but will also help you exchange them as long it’s not user damaged

went through 2 iphone 3g’s, 2 iPhone 4s, 4 iPhone 5s, 3 iPhone 6 Plus, 5 iPhone 7 Plus, 3 iPhone X, 3 iPhone XS, and on my second iphone 12 pro en route. Their quality control allow this, so you are not wrong to complain about defective iPhones that are new. That’s why they don’t give you a hard time about exchanging new phones with defects we know are hardware and not software.

magsafe is new tech on iphones, hence the colosal issues that keep popping up with this. Magsafe 2.0 should fix all of this. I have been told the magnets on the back are not giving the correct wattage while charging because it needs to warm up...
