iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

Bring it back and exchange it - there are many people who claim this is a software problem, but the question is why isn't all iPhone 12 Pro phones having this issue? They've sold many of these phones and you'd think there would be thousands of complaints by now online.

I did two hard resets and nothing improved. It never charged wirelessly for me. I put it on a Qi compliant Mophie puck and another Qi charger and the same thing happens. It charges for a second and then stops.

I contacted Apple support and they said to bring it back and that it was not a software bug. Not that I expect Apple to admit it but if it is not a software bug then you'll be very sorry that you did not exchange it within the warranty period. Make sure you at the very least document this with Apple Support before your exchange period expires.

If this is a 1 in 10 issue.....I would think frequent calls to Apple Support may get you a "replacement phone"......

If this is a "systemic problem"......Because it may be an RF issue......They are not going to replace the phones......Because what do you do with "old ones"......

You would think this could be fixed in firmware.....But after several months......Silence becomes worrisome......

And those who think Apple technology is better than Samsung......Just look at the specs....Apple is always at least half a generation behind Samsung in technology......Because......Samsung invents.......Apple until very very recently "integrates".......Apple should "invent" and for the largest tech company in the world......They are headed in that direction......(new MAC chips).......But they are certainly behind Samsung in phone technology at this point......

For clarity... I do not bleed Apple. I simply like their phones and the iOS. However, does not omit me from being disgruntled at purchasing a$1000.00 phone that does NOT do what it claims to and support does not help.

As stated, working with Apple Support has proven to not be helpful. Second iPhone12 and still NO wireless charging.

This is why i threw it our to the forum.

Saying "Don't be so obtuse" adds zero value to your post. You were sounding like a fairly reasonable person up to that point, but your comment at the end costs you points. Maybe put a little contemplation into what it was you thought you would accomplish.

No.. saying "apple clearly made something incompatible" with something added zero value. The comment was obtuse and pointless... it was nothing more than complaining.

And I did exactly what I wanted to accomplish.

I stated why the problem was occuring.. to continue to complain about it as if Apple had malice against the customers with their latest change IS by the very action an obtuse act.

But Apple advertises it as wireless charging, it does not. You can keep making all the cases you want, the iPhone 12 is supposed to wirelessly charge, however it does not. We’ve had several and they do not work. Thousands of others are in the same boat.

We all love to hear how you Apple support folks continue your attempts to defend it... It does not work, plain and very simple. I’m not sure why you continue to try to defend it to everybody, we all own the iPhone 12 and we like it - other than the wireless charging or the lack there of.

Maybe you like to buy things and have them not perform as they’re supposed to... some of us don’t.

But you support reps will put whatever spin on it or twist it, your answer is don’t use the wireless, Apple support’s response is “plug in the cable”,

Buddy, we’re talking about wireless charging not cable charging... catch up!

So if the screen isn’t as clear as specs say it should be, I guess you would say to connect it to a monitor. Hahahha

I have the same issue. My 12 Pro isn't charging in my car (Volvo XC60). If I try to charge it with other (cheap) chargers it's not a problem. Other phones (iPhone 11 Pro / 10 / Samsung) do charge without any issues in my car. So the built-in charger in my car is ok. After phone support form Apple, I went to the Apple Store. The Genius-Bar person was after a few seconds sure, it's an issue of my car, the phone works as expected. If a compatability issue exists, it's the car manufactures fault, because Apple is supperior and all other vendors have to comply with what Apple does. That was the answer of the Genius.

I'm quite sure it's an issue of the 12 Pro, but Apple seems to ignore that fact ans is not interested in looking for a solution.

Apple isn’t ignoring anything, you are.

You were told the answer, don’t like it and are blaming Apple.

The bottom line is nothing in the Qi standard specifies where the coil is placed, but accessory makers made assumptions.

Whether anything can be done about it depends upon how far off the coils are and if it could be addressed by a software revision on the part of Apple, the automaker, or not.

I take your point but also Apple stated that iPhone 12 would be compatible with QI Chargers even with the new MagSafe technology.

They should have said it would be compatible with SOME Qi chargers. Since people using earlier iPhones expected quite reasonably to continue to work with their new phones.

If it’s only compatible with some Qi chargers that’s fair enough but just tell people that and what the minimum requirements are.

Very interesting view and answer from you. I don't fully understand your objection concerning the coil and erroneous assumptions. Can you explain that to me?

Do you know where the coil is located in the iPhone 12 pro / 11 pro / 10?

I moved the phone over the entire length of the built-in charger, no matter how I positioned it, it doesn't charge.

How shall it have to be positioned on the built-in charger to fit the coil of the iPhone?

This aa normal problem with anything Automotive. A car maker designs a vehicle 2-3 years before production, so all 2020 model cars were designed in 2017 or earlier. hence they would make assumptions about 1) Coil position, and 2) Power levels. You will find that most in built car chargers would be 10w, and the iPhone 12 needs 15w. So that combined with mis-alignment of coils we cause the problem. You will see that 2022 models should all work fine.

Hi IJohn 007, thanks for your input. I'll contact the car manufacturer and ask for the specifications of the charger.

But I'm a bit confused, I own a charger at home from IKEA which is about 3 years old and acording the specifications delivers 10W. On this wireless charger my iPhone 12 Pro charges fine. Are maybe the labeled specifications from the IKEA charger wrong, if the iPhone 12 Pro needs 15W?
