iPhone 12 pro not charging with MagSafe charger

The magnet works fine but nothing happens. No charge. Why won’t MagSafe charger work with brand new iPhone 12 Pro?

Hi papijam23,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having some issues charging your iPhone 12 Pro using the MagSafe charger. There are some great instructions here:

How to use your MagSafe Charger with iPhone 12 models

Is there another charger and power source to try? If so, does this only happen with the MagSafe charger? Try the applicable steps from If your iPhone or iPod touch won't charge, then test for the issue again.

Have a great day!

Thanks for replying to this topic. I am having the same issue. When I plug the MagSafe connector into the 20W Apple charger, it does not charge the phone - the charge icon appears, but is not accompanied by the circle “connected” graphic. The charge icon disappears after about 5 or 10 seconds and the phone does not charge.

the phone charges as expected when plugging the USB-C to Lightning connector that came with the phone.

I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB AT&T, all of a sudden today (with iOS 14.2.1) MagSafe does not work, with the genuine Apple Clear MagSafe Case and Apple genuine MagSafe charger. I did the reset twice that you guys mentioned, did not work when connected to my brand new MacBook Pro 15" with latest software installed. I reboot it again and plugged it into the 20W adaptor (also used to charge MacBook) and it did not work. I think I am just going to return the entire phone, MagSafe Charger, and the compatible case. One issue into spending $1,200.00+ is not worth having to play button games to just get a charger to work. Anyone else still having this issue?

So here's my update since I got this thing four days ago. I clearly can't use it with my hard drive charger, one down. I cant charge it with any adapter, two down. I can't charge it to my 2018 Macbook Air because it's not USB-C, three down. It does charge on my GFs 2020 Macbook Air (which does have USB-C ports), but it's not accessible at all times, four down. My VW recognizes it as a MagSafe Charger with the use of an adapter but it doesn't charge, five down.

This is like when the knockoff chargers we bought at the gas station, market, Ross, Marshalls, TJMaxxx, and the phone said it didn't recognize it as an accessory. Apple is gonna have to put out another update to fix this.

Oh and you know what's so funny about all this? The knockoff adapters I'm using, actually work with the **** cord that came with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. SMH

Well I’ve had my 12 Pro Max for a week now and bought a MagSafe puck today and it won’t charge the phone. Did the volume button reset 5 times and nothing. Tried my wife’s 11 and nothing. Removed the clear MagSafe case and tried that way and nothing. I can only charge by lighting or my Belkin wireless charging pads in the house. What is going on Apple????? I’m running the latest and greatest software, clear MagSafe case, and 20w charging brick OEM, and and I can’t even charge the phone with your accessories YOU ADVERTISE AS COMPATIBLE!!! When is a fix coming? Maybe you should pay your engineers more to and stop worrying about being WOKE! Do what you supposedly do best, make a product that works as advertised and fix this ASAP! This phone costs too much to have to play button hopscotch to get a feature to work. I should have kept my 10s Max.
